Casino expansion in California

NuWu Casino: An Environmental Assessment report on a proposed casino and RV Park development in Twenty-Nine Palms, CA will be released to the public next Monday. The new KOA RV Park will be located adjacent to the NuWu Casino on tribal land in a beautiful high desert location where spectacular star-gazing is popular. The RV Park will include 100 RV, tent and cabin sites along with hiking trails. The 29 Palms Band of Mission Indians is planning a 2009 opening for the casino and RV Park.

Foothills Oaks Casino: Owned by the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, Foothill Oaks Casino is expected to open later this year. Currently under construction, the 88,000 square-foot gaming facility is located in Eldorado County, east of Sacramento.

  • I am so tired of people just accepting the opening of these hideous casinos because nobody wants to offend indians. Look folks, indians are just people, and they should not be given a pass to destroy environments and communities any more than a typical money grubbing developer. Twentynine Palms does not need a casino backing up to the national park. Why don't they open a learning center that genuinely celebrates their culture and history in the region? This would be in much better harmony with the area and the type of person who visits Joshua Tree National Park. Oh, wait a minute, how silly of me! They couldn't make half as much money as they THINK they are going to make with some garish, light polluting casino. Oh well, just take it lying down folks. We are, after all, supposed to believe that their ancestors would be proud. If that is indeed the case, then the only thing I can believe about their ancestors is that they were just as small-minded and greedy as some of the worst of humanity.
