Do your homework when buying RV dinghy
Before you make the decision to tow a vehicle with all four wheels down you need to do your homework. There are some manufacturer approved vehicles that can be towed without any modifications to the drive-train or transmission, but there are a lot more that will require some type of modification to tow it with all four wheels on the ground. There are many factors involved such as automatic transmissions, two wheel drive vehicles, four wheel drive vehicles, the type of transfer case and more.
Most vehicles with an automatic transmission cannot be towed with all four wheels down unless it is a four wheel drive, and even then it requires a transfer case that can be shifted into neutral. Front wheel drive vehicles with manual transmissions and most four wheel drive vehicles with a manual transfer case are among the best choices for towing with all four wheels down. Even if you have a vehicle that can be towed with all four wheels down it’s quite possible that it will have towing speed and/or mileage restrictions. -- Mark Polk, RV Education 101

Hi Mark and Chuck:
We have towed two Honda Civics and a Chev Cavalier and now we tow a Grand Am by Pontiac - all with four wheels down.
Each of our toeds have had an automatic transmissions and been towed 4-wheels down with no modifications and no towing speeds or length of tow restrictions.
Our first two Honda's towed great for a total of 12 years however we did so without the support of Honda. We also did not run into any towing problems.
Next we had a Cavalier (our friends had a Sunfire). Both of these were also automatic and all we did was pull one fuse. We followed directions in the handbook.
Our present Grand Am is also an automatic. It too is sanctioned for towing four wheels down according to the handbook. On this one we pull 3-fuses, put the key in the ACC position and car transmission in Neutral and drive away. No extra modifications are required.
Hope this info helps others find a great vehicle to tow the most simplified way of 4-wheels down.
Travel safe. Peggi and John

I tow a 2007 HHR with automatic transmission. This vehicle tows very well with very little effort. I pull one small fuse which requires removing a panel by the front passenger's leg, shift into neutral and turn key to accessory position. I also use a brake buddy with remote monitor system as the vehicle is well over 1500 lbs. Works great!
