Welcome to Military RVing
Military RVing is a site dedicated to help active duty and retired military families (including DOD employees and retirees) get the most enjoyment out of military "famcamps". Many of our famcamps are in disrepair and need help. MWR is happy to spend millions on golf courses but for some reason doesn't care about maintaining military RV campgrounds. More and more I see active duty military families using the famcamps as temporary living quarters while waiting to get into military housing. My wife and I are full time RVers and I retired from the Navy as a Chaplain in 2000. I hope to help point COs and MWR department heads in the right direction for maintaining and constructing new famcamps throughout the the USA. I also want to help get some needed training started for campground hosts and for MWR personnel as to how to properly manage these campgrounds. So I look forward to a future of interesting conversations and innovative ideas to help make our military famcamps top notch facilities not only for ourselves but for future generations to come. Thank you for attempting to 'wise-up' the MWR operators of the FamCamps. I hope you won't leave Camp Pendleton off your list. The last time we were at Camp Del Mar the parties on all sides of us were there illegally--no priviledges or on-site sponsor. Privilegded friends were unable to get a site. Some of these interlopers bragged of their friendship with the manager. And sadly, if you complain you get black-balled. And their prices have sky-rocketed too.

We are currently at Desert Eagle Famcamp at Nellis AFB, NV. We were able to reserve for just 3 days with hookups, and there is no room after that. It looks like the overflow area is pretty full too. My gripe? This famcamp will accept reservations up to six months in advance and will allow a SIX MONTH STAY!!!!!! And I'm not complaining about our active duty folks who might be in a situation that requires a longer stay - but retired geezers (of which we are a part)? No!!!! We own recreational vehicles and they have wheels!!! They are meant to be moved, not plunked down for six months at a time at the expense of others. Furthermore, while staying here last year, briefly in the overflow area, I had a conversation with a gentleman who was a civilian employee on this base and living at this famcamp. NOT FAIR!!!

I'm a Vietnam Era Vet, 4 years active, 2 years inactive, Honorable Disch., but not a military retiree..so this may be a dumb question, but am I eligible as a veteran to camp at Military RV parks? I am retired on SS Disability due to cancer.
Thank you

We just arrived at Kirtland AFB in Abu...., New Mexico and the place is full. It is Monday May 21. We were able to get one spot with electric only. One would think the famcamp would not be so full on a Monday in May. As I look around it seems like people have been here a very long time. We are heading across country and I'm afraid we well not be able to use the famcamps. In the book it says no reservation needed. Do you think it is worth a call to see if we can get reservations?
