Where Ya Gonna Eat: Parker
Not far north up Highway 95 from Quartzsite lies the county seat: Parker. A wee bit bigger than Quartzsite --depending on how you look at it, Parker does boast two big grocery stores (Bashas and Safeway) and a casino. Parker also has one of the few affordable chiropractors in the area--those down in Blythe are priced for rich Californians. Some folks trundle there way up there from QZ to take advantage of these outfits, but where to eat?First, let us strongly recommend avoiding the food at the casino. Yes, we know there'll be a few boos and hisses at our "non-endorsement." We've tried eating at the Blue Water several times, and sad to say, it ain't getting any better. In one humble opinion, the quality of the food is rated as "good" only by those who have lost their sense of taste. Into Chinese? OK, lots of folks swear by Parker's one Chinese joint, and while it did beat the Chinese food served in Quartzsite, it's still way less than stellar. Call it, "No amount of MSG will make the flavor reveal itself."
Ruperto's isn't long on ambiance, but simply food: The food's durn good. The combo plates offered here run the usual Mexican fare that could be found in any mexi-joint. But when you notice the huge packs of construction crew trucks and RVs piled up outside Ruperto's the question is: What are they eating? The specialty must be the special burritos and tortas.
And the prices? Hey, the exchange rate is good! Combos start at less than $5, the special burritos run from $2.75 to $3.15. Wash it all down with your favorite Norte Americano soda pop, or go native and buy a true Mexican fountain drink. Ruperto's is even worth making a special trip just for lunch.

Just north of Parker on the Colorado River is the Parker Strip. We stayed at Branson's Resort Jan. 2005. We would walk the mile thru La Paz County RV Park to get to the ROADRUNNER Floating Dock Bar & Grill. They had a nightly special, or order off the menu. Prime rib, tacos, chicken fried steak, fish, etc... All were very good and the price very reasonable. I'd recommend the ROADRUNNER if you are in the area.

If you're heading down Hwy. 60 between Wickenburg and I-10 on your way to Quartzsite, be sure to stop at Kofa Cafe. It is 18 miles north of I-10 on the west side of Hwy. 60. It's a 2-story gray building, so you can spot from miles away. The food is wonderful, and they serve breakfast all day. Orange juice is fresh-squeezed. And don't miss the chocolate malts, made the old-fashioned way. There's plenty of room for RVs, and you may even share the parking lot with airplanes, whose pilots have flown in for something good to eat.

Parker Chiropractic is run by a nice gal who also pitches softball. If I'm not being politically incorrect, she's Amazonian in stature but does a good job on the wife's bones. Phone her practice at 928-669-2123. She's got a new baby and runs what some might feel "odd" hours.

We moved to Salome about six months ago. I found a treasure in "The Way-Cool Cafe" AKA "Ingredients" in Wenden (on the 60 in between Wickenburg and Quartzsite. Odd hours, but wonderful folks, food and decor~and HEALTHY delicious salads, coffees, teas, etc. My honey is an OTR driver, so I usually serve home cooked meals. I haven't tried the Kofa Cafe yet, but I will now. Thanks!
