Haves and the Don't Have So Muches--All Meet on the Desert
It was one of the things that most amazed us when we first came to the Quartzsite desert. No matter how much money you have--or don't have--the desert is big attraction. Million dollar rigs can--and as you can see--do park right next to the neighbor who has a whole lot less.
Happy trails.

One thing we found too. There is a great equalizer between the humble 1980s trailer and the brand-spankin-new Prevost coach: Each of us has got to go down to the dumpstation every once in a while and take care of business.
Happy trails.

Would like to know about dump sites & fresh water supply. Also can grey water be discharged on ground? Thanks for the info. We will be there in Jan. 2008

Crow:
On the Long Term Visitor Areas (permits required) dump stations are available at no extra charge. Fresh water available there, too. No, gray water CANNOT legally be dumped on BLM land.
If you stay on a short term area (free for 2 weeks) there is NO water nor dump station available. However, you can pay to dump and take on fresh water in town. One place is on Highway 95, about 1/2 mile north of the interstate at the RV Pitstop. They also sell LP.

Where do you get the permits?
How much are they?
Hours one can get them?
Thanks.

Permits can be purchased at the entry station at each LTVA. Typically they're open 9 am to about 4pm; sometimes if the volunteers aren't available at that entry station you can get one at any of the other stations--they're all in within a couple of miles of each other. $180 for the whole season (through April 15) or whatisit--I'm thinking around $30 or $35 for a 14 day permit. The information is in an earlier blog entry--probably from September or early October.

Russ and Tina, don't forget they can also camp for free for two weeks in a lot of the BLM land around Quartzsite, especially around Bouse or Plomosa Range. It's not all pay sites and it's not far to Quartzsite and the RV Pitstop to dump or buy LP gas. Bouse is a very RV friendly town and is very close to Quartzsite. All they have to do is check in at Quartzsite to make sure they are not on private property or a mining claim and then go pick a spot. A lot of camping is done on Plomosa Road and Hwy 95 in a large area near the Hwy.
