Egg Camper No Yoke for RV Market

Fifth wheels. Class-A motorhomes. Travel trailers. Eggs. What do we all have in common? Well, now they’re all recreational vehicles.
It’s that old midwest innovation: Jim Palmer runs an autobody shop in Grand Rapids, Michigan, who figured if he fiddled with the old teardrop design, he might make an improvement. Now his fiberglass "Egg Campers" show he may be onto something.
With a relatively thin shell, only an 1/8", common sense would suggest Palmer’s RVs would--well--just crack up at the least provocation. But Palmer’s not having a Humpty Dumpty day, it seems that he’s sitting pretty.
Palmer’s 17’ molded fiberglass travel trailers are not only innovative from the outside, they’ve got a whole new, sleek look on the inside. Added in is a relatively low price of $17,000, and Jim Palmer’s innovation is getting a lot of attention. He recently "broke out" of his shell by showing his Egg Camper line at a Grand Rapids RV show. And that’s no yoke. Check out the Egg Camper website for more information.

Wow, check out the web site. Even the interior is molded fiberglass. Sleek looks & easy to clean. At 2000 lbs it would be easy to tow.

This looks almost exactly like the 17' Boler trailer that we owned as our first trailer in about 1977. The first Boler's were 13' and were off white and green in color. Ours was beige and a soft orange. The interior was quite different from this Egg Camper but it accomodated the three of us very nicely and could be towed behind almost any car. The Boler's were made in Canada, which is where we got ours.

My husband is on his way now to the Egg place to check them out, driving from Texas. We are downsizing big time from a 35' motorhome to one of these ultra lite trailers. I feel way to guilty driving around the 7 mile per gallon hog contributing to global warming in a big way, so we are on to the EGG! These little ultra lites are a great solution, we can still travel and bring our pets along too and feel good about it.

He bought the EGG! He liked it so much after touring the factory and meeting the owner, he bought the 2006 demo that was for sale. He is enroute to TX somewhere around Memphis, the last report, and he is towing it with our 2000 Toyota Camry. He said that everything is going great. Eventually we will get a bit bigger tow vehicle, but the Toyota is doing it.
After spending 2 nights in the EGG he told me over the phone that "I will love it" So, when he gets it home (ETA sometime Friday), we'll have a proper "EGG warming" with friends, and then plan a short trip trying it out with the pets (all elderly, 2 cats and 1 big dog) and then later this summer head to CA to visit family and friends. Texas Taxes nightmare...
Before picking up the Egg we checked to make sure we would not be charged twice (once in MI, once in TX) for sales taxes.
MI said they will collect tax, period. TX said they would give credit for the tax paid to MI.
When trying to register the Egg in TX, the greedy tax collector tried to weasel out. The first claim was that I had to have proof that MI actually remitted the tax to TX. They don't do this.
I printed the law and took it with me the next time. After being confronted with the actual law, which says nothing about MI having to pay TX, the boss tax droid disappeared for 10 minutes to try to come up with a different scam justification. She came back with: "The law says credit for taxes paid to the STATE, we paid taxes to the DEALER (the only way it is possible to purchase a new Egg in MI).
This was of course not the intent of the law makers.
Bottom line: we went to the tax office 4 times, trying to get a different clerk each time, hoping that there would be one somewhere who is pleasant, reasonable, and a bit smarter than stupid.
This technique was successful on the 4th try.
Bottom line:
A) Jim Palmer of Egg Camper was extremely helpful during the entire process. The customer service at EggCamper is outstanding.
B) Be sure you get your ducks lined up ahead of time with regard to sales taxes.

I bought my new Egg Camper this past April. It was a demo from "06" with all the extras in it. My wife & I loved camping in it this past summer. When ever we go to different camping spots, we always have people ask if thet can go thru it. I must confess that I love showing it off. People say that the outside looks great, but the inside looks even better. Give Jim Palmer a call. He will set you up with a great deal on one. I highly recomend him. He is fair & honest. David W. We have not camped much, but want to travel with our dog and the motel prices keep going up.
What to do? What to do?
