Monaco profits nosedive

Monaco Coach Corp. reported Thursday that its first-quarter profits had plunged due to slower sales across all its business segments. Net income dropped from $8.3 million a year ago to $1.5 million. Revenue fell 16 percent to $322.2 million from $385.1 million last year. The Coburn, Ore., company employs 5,300 people in Oregon and Indiana and is one of the nation's leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles.

  • That is a straight and clear response to their quality problems allover their product lines. If the RV buyer does not get good service after spending a fortune for a new MH, and he is being told that Monaco is the cause of endless delays (up to 6 months) in shipping replacement parts for plenty of warranty issues, how can this buyer avoid to be a terminator instead a multiplicator for Monaco ?

  • All I can say is "you reap what you sow." Monaco is feeling the effects of poor if any quality control and terrible service. Thanks to the internet the secret is out and the results are in. People are tired of getting ripped off after investing hundreds of thousands of dollars for a piece of the good life. Maybe this will help them to turn around and become a consumer friendly company again.

  • I attended a Monaco rally 2 years ago in Georgia and went to the owners meeting. During the meeting most of the comments centered around quality control. Look out! The Japanese may be on the horizon in the RV industry. Just look at what happened in the automobile industry due to the big three ignoring what the consumer wanted and needed. I am a retired US submarine sailor and our QA was second to none (our lives depended on QA) If the RV industry would hire some retired military QA inspectors and give them enough authority they could fix this problem a lot cheaper than 300 million dollars.
