Flying RV fridge injures mushroom picker
Last week we reported on an accident involved a "fly-away" RV awning that killed a passing motorist. Now comes word of another bizarre incident, and again it comes from a website by personal injury lawyers seeking creative ways about how to drum up business.
This time, the report is about a flying refrigerator -- sent airborne from a motorhome after it veered off a Washington state freeway, down an embankment and into a tree. Upon impact, the portable refrigerator was ejected from the RV and hit a 58-year old bicyclist who was picking mushrooms.
A woman who was walking inside the RV at the time of the crash was critically injured. She, the driver and the mushroom-picking bicyclist were all rushed to the hospital.
The lawyer writing about incident advises his peers that "both the man who was hit by the refrigerator and the passenger in the RV likely have claims against the driver. Just like failing to wear a seatbelt doesn't preclude a person from making a personal injury claim, the fact that the passenger was reportedly walking around inside the RV while it was in motion does not prevent her from bringing a claim."

:o) Not that it is all that important....
The accident was not on a freeway but a 2 lane highway. My husband and I passed it Just after, while the dust was still flying. Also (FYI) we live right around the corner and the lady was "Life Flighted" out. For the ambulance chasing lawyer... I bet the police report will show that the RV was cut off by someone pulling out in front of them OR the driver suffered a health problem.
Just my 2 cents worth.

The lawyers are ruining the word And the reason I'm anonymous is because I don't want to be sued by them.

Just goes to prove what a 'sue-happy' society we have become. The mushroom picker I could see some type of claim for medical bills, but the woman walking around in the RV - no way. But, then I have heard of spouses suing each other just for the money.

I am sure none of you will sue when injured by another person. Glad to hear it! Just suck it up and move on! Right? So if you are just driving down the road and a motor home awning kills your spouse, get over it!! Don't sue, for heaven's sake, to recover for the harm done to you or your family. Just forget about it! That is what you all are saying. What nice Christian folks you are.

This is the reason why for an extra $10 a month we have insurance on our RV when we are traveling even though in our state of Oregon if it is hooked up to your vehicle you are covered.

I would sue the landowner for: Having a tree so close to the road that an out of control RV could hit it.
No protective barriers in front of said tree.
The mushroom picker could be jailed for trespass.
The state can be sued for failing to post proper signage.
I should be locked away for posting this tirade.

Looks like you can't really get away from it all. A motorhome crashes into a tree a passenger inside is injured and a guy picking mushrooms is injured, but worst of all, before anyone can say what has happened to the injured and whether they want to sue or not, a lousy attorney is already trying to stir up some business. Don't get upset at the people who were in the accident. Get upset that the attorney stuck his nose in where it wasn't invited. Does anyone know whether or not the woman lived, how's the bicyclist? What about the driver? Is he allright? Oh, I forgot, we aren't supposed to care about the people, only the oppourtunity they now have to make some money, based on what the attorney wants to do.
