You've Heard of Slideouts--How About Slideups?
It was bound to happen: If there's no more room to go out the side of your RV, somebody was bound to start thinking of going UP. Imagine an SURV--toy hauler as some of us call them--with a "bump" on top of the rear hauling area. What's the bump? In the case of the Keystone Outback travel trailer, the bump is a 6' 4" soft sided room that adds a second story to the unit. The company will be showing off the new innovation next Tuesday at a trade show in Louisville, Kentucky. No word on when the public may get a shot at it.

Looks like the owner could be the lookout for all the evil doers in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

So silly! We don't have any slides on our motorhome, and unless the weather is nasty for more than a day, it's plenty big enough for the two of us. Enough already!

jojodelaboner,
Then stay off the road.
There are full timer RVer's out there and have everything they own with them. Also those part timers that have children need more storage. Some people go for extended stays of 6 months or so, when they still have their houses.

I knew this was coming years ago,I just wondered when.I love camping, but why don't some people just put wheels under their house and take it on vacation.Atleast you will have a place to park it when you get home.

Slide-up, Slide-Up, Slide-under; what the difference? If the technology allow for more options, then who are we to object. It's about choices. Keep the new ideas coming! I love them and can choose to incorporate them or not. I love that fact that I have choices now that I wouldn't have dreamed of a few years ago.

I'd like to see what the interior looks like!

My husband says it is a great idea. Kids can be up there having a great camping experience in a small space, surveying the land.
It would be nice for him if we had a toy, which we don't, as when he walks in our RV he is often hitting his head on the obstructions--the lights, the AC--as we have an older 85 model, which is before people were often 6 1/2 feet or 7 feet tall. all that comes from eating our veggies and drinking our milk, I guess.

I think it's awesome! Let's expand this technology to other RV's.

We've never traveled with kids, so haven't needed the extra space. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. I just don't "get" some of these new creations.

Design iis always the way what we use can be improved. Wonder if anyone consider that many campgrounds have an average clearance of 12-14 feet in many campsites with trees. Might limit the campsites they can use.

It was bound to happen, and for a "toy hauler" it's a great idea. My brother-in-law owns a toy hauler for his off road bikes, and an additional little room over that area for sleeping is a great idea, since the "garage" takes up quite a bit of the space available in one of these units. Finally, I find it humorous when folks complain about what other people want in terms of a camping or RV'ing experience. Purists are welcome to camp in a foxhole if they like; why should I be forced to like their preferences any more than they mine? I've roughed it thousands of times in the past. Now that I'm in my 60's I don't need it nor want it; give me a few creature comforts and I'm happy, and therefore I won't make my neighbor in the campsite next to me (who likes to rough it) uncomfortable with my moanings and grumblings! LOL. People should lighten up.

WOW, some of you people are judgemental of others wants and needs! If you don't like it, don't buy it! Those who do want it because it will make their campng experience more enjoyable, you go for it. The slideup looks like a screen house which would be wonderful at night when misquitos
normally eat you alive. My husband and I are semi retired and live in our motor home full time. We love it. We also love all the modern conveniences. Not all RV'ers are looking for the rustic experiences.
We have been there and done that! Now we want comfort.

Don't see this as any additional space as you can't have both a slide-out and a slide-up. You may have an option either for a slide-up or a slide-out but when retracted it will still occupy the same interior space.

they evidently tried this out in a place like Washington ,where the sun doesn't shine . wait till
they go some place like So.Cal or AZ in the summer .we'll see how they like their solarium.

It's a great idea for gaining more livable space. My concern is quality control. You would not want it to get stuck in the up position. Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "stuck-up."
For those who object to another slide I detect a bit of jealousy. What's wrong with gaining more room to live and move about. My 5 year old would love it.

Lighten up everybody!!! If you love it, GREAT. If you hate it, GREAT. Don't buy it. If it has shortcomings, then that will come out in time. Personally, my husband and I were close to purists when we were younger. We graduated from a tent to a pop-up to a travel trailer with no slide outs. I don't want one for the same reason I don't use a pop-up, you have to stow it. I am happy to be able to just pack up and drive without worrying about taking apart the structure. But that doesn't mean you can't love it.
