Chinese Export 'Cute' RV to US
First it was "Hello Kitty!" Now it's "iCamp" Those clever marketers in Asia are selling cute to the American public. At the big RV trade show in Louisville, Kentucky, the first Chinese import RV was shown off in a trade show setting.iCamp Elite is an 14' teardrop trailer that tips the truck scales at less than 3,000 pounds. Designed for towing behind a 6-cylinder vehicle, it looks as those iCamp has chosen the perfect timing to roll out in a big way. Big enough for a queen bed, a modern-styled galley, and an entertainment system where you can plug your iPod in, the retail price of less than $20,000 may draw the weekender crowd in a big way.
Learn more about iCamp from the US distributor's web site.
We'd probably be remiss if we didn't ask: Has that eye-popping paint been tested?
Labels: Chinese RV, iCamp, import RV

21 Comments:
The trailer would probably only weigh 1000 lbs if it wasn't for the lead in the paint.
Another blow to the American RV manufacturers.

You are correct in your assessment that you should ask if the paint on the "cute" iCamp was tested [for lead content]. You might also ask if the unit was assembled by forced labor in the workers' paradise of communist China.
Hmmm...I wonder...

After all the toy recalls containing lead, the computer hard drives with trojan horses already imbedded, the spying they do on the US military, turning our Navy away from the port of Hong Kong during a storm and then refusing the air craft carrier to dock for Thanksgiving R&R with the crews famlies; this RV would be the last on my list to consider. I would not buy anything marked Made In China.

Another set of jobs lost for American workers. Plants are closing, replacement parts from inferior, lead loaded material and it keeps happening.
I had a person from another country tell me that the USA will soon be a third world country... Oh well, the big companies are making a killing.
Protect our jobs... Buy American made!

I agree, I am disappointed to see it even be allowed to come to the USA. When are we going to take our country back? When it is too late!! This is a disgusting trailer and before I bought a trailer made in China I'd go back to tent camping.

If you decide to not buy anything that is made in China you will look long and hard to find some things you want that have not been made in China. Chinese cars are coming as soon as they can meet U.S emissions. I worry about the future of our car manufactures.

I have driven by an RV dealer near our home that has a couple of these on his lot. I was intrigued and had considered checking it out. Not any more! The American RV manufacturers are hurting enough without this Chinese competition. No thanks.

If the chinese have a foot in the door, the manufacturers in the USA only have themselves to blame. The quality of most motor homes in the USA leaves a lot to be desired. The only disadvantage to buying chinese is quality, however in the RV industry unless you are buying a Prevost , in most cases this no longer exist.

Prevost is manufactured in Canada, not the USA.
Quality RVs are out there if you do your homework. Check out Lazy Daze Class Cs. They've been making them for over 50 years, and the quality is extremely good.

Next time you make a trip to Wal-Mart, Kohls, or Target or for that matter nearly every store in the US, you all should take note of the multitude of Made in China tags on everything including clothes, pottery, toys, shoes, appliances. Just like the US was 75 years ago, today the Chinese are making everything to export to the world. The reason... Cheap labor and people who want to get ahead. You can choose not to buy Chinese today, but in 10 years you won't have a choice.

How many American made RV's do the Chinese buy/import? Would you see if you could please get an accurate statistic on that for readers?

All tv's, radios, textiles, and plastics, now come mainly out of China.
We don't make anything here anymore, and people have lost good quality jobs because of it.
So...now go buy one of these, CUTE Chinese Trailers. I'd be steaming mad if you camped next to me!
Why don't we just call the U.S. Chinamart?

If you are looking for a small trailer check into a reproduction serro scotty camper. They are made in the USA by Amish craftsmen. and a lot cheaper and great quality.

Import RV's to China vs US imports from China? Think about it! SLAVE LABORERS CAN'T AFFORD OUR RV'S.....
Like another poster said, "I don't do Chinese!, because of the loss of jobs to our country, the contamination of their products with drugs and lead, and because of the imbalance of US exports to them vs the imports to us.

I hate to say it but when I tore down and rebuilt my '91 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, I found Chinese parts on it! I kind of expected Keihen Carburetors to be made in Japan and of course the after market Mikuni carbs but Made In China?-Poop! And weren't the Yugos made in Yugoslavia?

As a rv tech, I'd hate to have to try and communicate with technical services for any reason, yet alone work on a warranty concern on the pile. We as a country should boycott any rv built somewhere else but the United States.
