Santa Fe RV Park Turns Candid Camera On Powder Room
A couple of RVers who were checked in at the Santa Fe Skies RV Park in New Mexico checked out in a hurry after they found a "spy cam" in the park bathroom. Kimble Kubiak was washing his hands when he noticed a camera looking down on him.Police responded to Kubiak's concerns and say park managers installed the cam to catch "cleaning supply" thieves. We checked out the park's website and found an interior view of the bathroom -- this one apparently not taken by a secret camera -- and if anybody's stealing supplies, it looks as though all they'll get away with is a few paper towels.
Responding officers asked the park to remove the spy cam, and turned the matter over to local prosecutors for a further peek into the matter.

Do any of you out there know how many thieves there are that visit RV Parks, Being an owner of one for several yrs has lead to many revelations. People will steal almost anything, rolls of TP , paper towles, TP Holders, electrical outlets, cable connectors, ECT,Most people are Honest and would never think of taking any thing , but there are those that ruin it for the rest of us. RV Owners have the right to protect there property and im sure that the spy cam was not in a location that would violet anyone privcy

I'd like to see these park owners, or whoever installed the camera, prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
In response to the previous poster who would like to protect his/her property, how about installing security cameras OUTSIDE restrooms, to catch people who may be taking supplies, and to provide some measure of security for the RV park patrons, as well?

What the hell is the big deal?? As long as the camera isn't in the stalls, who cares? I would welcome cameras if they keep away the pigs and thieves.

We have been staying at this RV park for the last 6 months and can unquestionably say that the owners are great people and were only trying to cut down on thefts. The situation could have been handled differently by placing the camera outside the restroom or placing a sign that stated a camera was present but I am sure that theft was the only motive for placing the camera there. This is a great RV park and I would encourage anyone to stay here without any worries.

I agree. What's the big deal? If you're naked outside the stall, then you know you can expect to be seen by others coming into the facility; the camera is outside the stall - where's the difference, and why do you care? There is no expectation of privacy outside the stall.

Hey, it IS a big deal. If I'm in a restroom, and I don't care WHERE it is, I do not want my privacy invaded by a camera no matter what! If there is a theft problem, put a cam outside like Sharon N. said.

Why is it that poeple want everyone fired, sued or thinks they can do better then every president?
I have seen worse things at campgrounds by the poeple who were parked next to me! what next? a law that says all curtins and blinds are to be chained down after dark?
Public restrooms are just that..public. If it was your rig getting riped off then you would be crying the blues that the park owners are responsable for that too. Cameras inside or out people would still complain! How about the camera's on almost every corner of cities now? might catch you eating boogers..... some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope.
Also just because you think others might want to look at you ,chances are your only flattering yourself. I myself look good in the dark and sing great in the shower.
This would be different if videos were posted online, but......they were not.

the camera was there to catch any unsuspecting well known. then to be sold to a news stand rag type paper.

There can be no expectation of privacy in the public area of a public restroom. However, the RV park owners erred in failing to display signage warning that public areas are under surveillance. The signs alone are an extremely effective deterrent.

Yes, they could put the camera outside the door or with a sign outside the door and then they would know for sure it was payday as they steal the camera to sell.

No camera in the "private" areas, showers and stalls, that's great. I would hope they had it on a long running tape so they could catch the type of "Rver" slobs that trash so many of the parks across the country. I would think that was the real reason rather than theft. This was a great park on our month trip west in '04. from the photo in the story, I'm glad to see they are maintaining the excellent facilities.
