In the 1940s I first learned to drive one of these. That's when the cops didn't bother a 12 year old driving around in the backwoods of Mendocino County in California. It would carry as many 1 gallon buckets of blackberries as we could put in the bed or as much loose hay we could stack on it or at least four people, two in front and two in back. It would get about 4 or 5 miles to the gallon of kerosene mixed with mothballs, but about 15 or 20 or so on gas, when we could get it. It also did fine pulling a little wagon loaded with a couple cream cans down to the highway.
