Airstream trailer? Well, sort of, but not really

Ok. This RV started off as an Airstream trailer, we're pretty darn sure of that. But somewhere along the line it got transformed into a motorhome, but not in the "mass produced" sense. We don't believe you will see many models of this rolling down the highway. Just this one, we think.

  • This looks like a Toronado. They used to say it had a frame and body built like a tank. I saw one back in the 60's with a fifth wheel hitch mounted on the roof pulling a good sized fiver. This was near Lima OH. And I was stone cold sober.

  • My brother owns a used car lot and once took on consignment a full-sized Buick with a 'saddle' mount on the roof that pulled a fifth-wheel trailer just fine. I don't remember the brand name of the unit but I'm sure it was intended for a trailer by the same manufacturer.

One neat trick was that you could spin the car a full 360 degrees under the trailer and actually push the trailer back into a parking spot....easier than backing one conventionally, sometimes.
