When nothing else will do...
...how about making your own personal ice cream? This is the perfect boondocking treat: no electricity is needed and you don't have to crank for hours. Here's how it works. Gather the ingredients: 1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
6 tablespoons salt (rock salt is best)

We make this at camp every year with the kids and have learned some variations: Use skim milk and splenda for fat-free, sugar-free ice cream. Add ~ 1/2 tsp. cocoa for chocolate or a little chocolate syrup. You can also add the little individual coffee creamers in various flavors (Irish Cream, Hazelnut, etc.) for interesting variety. We have also used food coloring and other milk flavorings (strawberry, etc.) with success.
Always use freezer bags as they are less likely to break. Rinse off the inner bag to remove the salt from the ice/salt mixture, cut off a corner of the bag and eat it straight from the bag.
