FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the 16th issue of the RV Traveler Newsletter, brought to
you by the websites and sponsors above. And a special welcome to the
1500 new subscribers since our last issue two weeks ago.
TWO WONDERFUL BOOKS FOR BRAND NEW RV OWNERS
I'm thrilled to announce a couple of new, low-priced books we are selling through our bookstore. "Motorhomes Made Easy" and "Trailers Made Easy" are very helpful guides to operating an RV safely and properly. The author includes hundreds of tips that would take an RVer years to learn on his or her own. These books are only $8.95 each and are a wonderful accompaniment to the RV 101 Education Videos (see info below) we already offer.
Read more at http://www.NewRVer.com/easy.html
JOIN ME ON A VIDEO RV ROAD TRIP
For 11 years, I published an "on-the-road" newspaper about my
RV travels around the American West in my "motorhome newsroom."
Early in the '90s, I produced a home video about one of my best-ever
trips. I sold thousands, and am now offering them again. If watching
this entertaining, often funny video doesn't make you want to hit
the road, nothing will. Read more or order for $19.95 at
http://www.OutWestNewspaper.com/video.html
HOME VIDEOS EXPLAIN RVs TO NOVICE RVers
RV Education 101 presents two videos on how to operate everything
on a motorhome or trailer/fifth wheel. Each VHS video is 75-minutes
long and very useful to novice RVers. Read more or order at
http://www.NewRVer.com/RV101.html

DIRECTORY OF DUMP STATIONS
Is it my imagination or are the number of dump stations decreasing?
Regardless, here's a web site with an extensive list of dump stations
from coast to coast, making this a valuable resource:

PRESERVING THE ROADSIDE
The Society for Commercial Archeology is the oldest national
organization devoted to the artifacts, structures, signs and symbols
of the 20th-century commercial landscape. A big part of its mission is
to help preserve and publicize what's left along the roadside of
yesteryear. If you love the old roads, check out the SCA's website at
http://www.sca-roadside.org
BY THE WAY, one roadside attraction the SCA will most certainly want to
see preserved is the world's largest ball of twine in Kansas. Oh, you'd
like to see what it looks like? Okay, click on over to
http://skyways.lib.ks.us/kansas/towns/Cawker/twine.html

"ARMPIT OF AMERICA" PLANS BIG CELEBRATION
Battle Mountain, Nev., 217 miles east of Reno, is about to celebrate
it's title "Armpit of America," as designated by the Washington Post.
"A pathetic assemblage of ghastly buildings and nasty people," wrote
one visitor about the community of 3,500. Still, the locals have managed to
find humor in the notoriety and will stage their first ever "Armpit Festival"
June 29-30. On tap: a chuckwagon feed, rodeo, community bonfire, and, of
course, an armpit contest or two. Call (775) 635-8245 for info.
"DRIVE" THE ALASKA HIGHWAY BEFORE YOU GO
Three new home videos provide a sneak preview of traveling north of
our border. "RV Alaska" details Bob and Judy Howen's 67-day, 6,700-mile
trip on the Alaska Highway and then in Alaska itself (with a return trip via
the Inland Passage by ferry). Their other videos, "Western Canada By RV"
and "Eastern Canada by RV" are equally entertaining. Read more about
these home videos or order at http://www.RVbookstore.com/howens.html

TIPS ON TOWING A CAR WITH ALL FOUR WHEELS DOWN
Here's a tip from Remco about towing a vehicle behind a motorhome
with all four tires down: "Be careful when towing on thick gravel
or sand in a parking lot as sometimes the front tires on your toad
will turn in the opposite direction you are headed (so you are in effect
dragging the car through the gravel). The only way the wheels will
straighten out is to stop the motorhome, get out, and turn the steering
wheel in the direction you are headed." More tips are at:
