FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com

Welcome to the 32nd edition of the RV Traveler Newsletter, brought
to you absolutely free by the websites and sponsors above and a
fairly intelligent fellow named Chuck, who believes that the only
good road is a back road and that any vehicle with a kitchen sink is
far superior to one without one.

ABOUT MY TIME IN CONGRESS
With many Congressional elections coming up soon, my thoughts have
been turning to politics, and it reminded about my time in Congress. If
you think I am fibbing, you are 100% wrong, for it is absolutely true
that, I did, in fact, spend a short time in Congress. For the rest of the
story, see below.

UPDATE: CONNECTING TO THE INTERNET WHILE ON THE ROAD
Last issue I passed along a website with information about connecting to
the Internet while on the road. Several readers pointed out to me that
this information, while valuable, was not up-to-date. Here's a resource
that offers far more comprehensive and current information:

BIRTHPLACE OF "THE MOTORHOME"
Brown City, Michigan proclaims itself "Birthplace of the Motorhome."
In 1953, Ray Frank started a brand new industry when he built an all-
weather travel vehicle for his family, calling it a motor home. Responding
to the great interest created by this first vehicle, Frank began
manufacturing motor homes in a barn. The company eventually became
the Travco Division of PRF Industries. See a photo of the Brown City
welcome sign, proclaiming the town's claim to fame.

STARS AND STRIPES NEWSPAPER MUSEUM
Anyone who has served in the American military service probably has a
fondness for the Stars and Stripes, the U.S. Armed Forces daily newspaper.
On November 9, 1861, Union soldiers of the Illinois 11th, 18th and 29th
Regiments, after forcing the Confederates south, set up camp in
Bloomfield, Missouri. Upon finding the newspaper office empty, they
decided to print a newspaper for their expedition to relate the troop's
activities. They called it "The Stars and Stripes." This was the beginning
of the "Soldier's Newspaper." Now a museum and website have been
established to honor this historic periodical. Read about it .

CARBON MONOXIDE CAN BE DEADLY. BE SAFE!
This time of year, most RVers spend more time inside their RVs than
they did in the warm summer. It's also a time when the chance of
being poisoned by carbon monoxide gas is at its highest. Here's information
from the National Safety Council about this common gas, the symptoms
of being poisoned by it, and how to ensure it doesn't happen to you.

TAX NEWS FOR WORKAMPERS
RVers who serve as camphosts or who trade services for sites at RV parks
may not have to pay income taxes on the value of the sites. IRS Publication
525 offers rules regarding income provided in the form of lodging. It
states that RV camphosts would not be taxed on the value of their site
as income if: The lodging is furnished on the business premises of the
employer, and if the lodging is furnished for the convenience of the employer,
and if the employee is required to accept such lodging as a condition of his or
her employment. Campground owners and workampers should consult with their
accountant or the IRS for the final word on this. To obtain the IRS Publication
525, visit http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/index.html

WORTH PONDERING:
"When you rise in the morning, form a resolution to make the day
a happy one for a fellow creature." — Sydney Smith

ABOUT MY TIME IN CONGRESS
Okay, I admit this was a cheap trick to get you to read the online edition
of this newsletter. But it's true that I did spend some time in Congress,
as do many other RVers. However, the Congress I spent time in was
Congress, Arizona., which is one of many popular winter snowbird areas.
I spent a few hours there once, and realized even then, that from that day
on, when anyone asked me what I had accomplished in my life, I could
answer with complete honesty that "I had spent some time in Congress."

RANDOM RV THOUGHT

than if you face it." Do you have a Random RV Thought? Email it to
