Welcome to the 36th edition of the RV Traveler Newsletter, brought
to you every Sunday by the websites and sponsors above and a
guy named Chuck, who believes that a marshmallow roasted over a
campfire is one of the world's greatest, low-cost, fat-free deserts.

With home mortgage rates so low these days, many people are buying
new homes, and with good reason: they can get a lot of house for far less
than even a year ago. But RVers should be careful about where they buy
their new home if they plan to keep their RV in the driveway or elsewhere
on their land. Not a week passes that a community somewhere in America or
Canada doesn't enact a law restricting where a property owner may park an
RV. In some cases, an RV is simply not allowed on the street for more than a
day or two. In others, an RV can't be stored on a driveway, or anywhere else
where it can be seen by the public. In some cases, RVs are simply not allowed
anywhere on the property at anytime except for loading and unloading. So
if you plan to buy a new home, be sure to check with local authorities about
zoning laws regarding RV storage. And even if there are no restrictions, ask
around to see if there is talk about enacting any.

PROPANE: ON OR OFF WHILE DRIVING?
Is it okay to travel down the highway with your refrigerator running
on propane? Opinion is divided on this subject. For example, in this
month's issue of Trailer Life, in its "RV Clinic and Performance" column,
the authors conclude, "Use of LP-gas on the highway is a perfectly
acceptable practice under safe driving conditions. . ." Meanwhile in the
current issue of Escapees Magazine, columnists Hank Schnelle and Roy
Stiglich hem and haw a bit: "Driving with the propane on is a gamble," they
write. "If safety is your first priority, the clear choice is to drive with
your propane turned off." But, they add, "if you feel the benefits of
driving with your propane on outweigh its potential dangers, you may
choose to keep it on."

MANY RVers PLAN TO HIT THE ROAD DURING HOLIDAYS
With the holidays right around the corner, families are beginning to plan their
annual trip to Grandma's house. For many, traveling over the holidays is an
unending source of frustration, but not for RVers who plan to hit the road in
big numbers. Thanksgiving weekend is projected to be the heaviest travel
period, with 32 percent of RV owners planning to travel America's highways,
followed by 22 percent over Christmas/Hanukkah. RV owners will be on the
move throughout the rest of the winter as well. Overall, a Campfire Canvass
survey found that 97 percent of them expect to travel more or the same
amount this winter as last.
