FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
Welcome to the 37th edition of the RV Traveler Newsletter,
brought to you every Sunday by a guy named Chuck who believes
that "enough is enough," and the bumper sticker "We're spending
our children's inheritance" should be outlawed.
A news item caught my eye the other day about a Canadian company
that has introduced a 21-foot Class B motorhome with a
Mercedes-Benz diesel engine. Leisure Travel Vans' 2003 Free Spirit
is equipped with a turbocharged 2.7-liter, five-cylinder, 154-hp
Mercedes diesel engine that is said to get 22 miles per gallon. It's
the first motorhome in North America based on the Mercedes-Benz
diesel-powered Sprinter van chassis, retailing for $72,000. I spent
a few weeks last year exploring New Zealand in a similar motorhome,
also with a Mercedes diesel engine. It was a smooth-running, peppy
little rig that did not like stopping for fuel. What a shock that was
after years of driving American motorhomes with their big thirsts.
This new rig may be worth investigating for anyone who doesn't need
much space, and who enjoys lots of miles between petrol stops.

ALTERNATIVE HEAT SOURCES FOR AN RV
All but the smallest RVs come equipped with a built-in ducted
propane furnace. Yet a growing minority of RVers rarely use
this furnace, opting for alternate forms of heat. Here's a
detailed article that explains the reasons for alternate heating
systems and whether one is right for you.

RV JOKE
Joe and Ed, both from Duluth, Minnesota, were standing in the
shallow end of a swimming pool at the Fountain of Youth RV Park
at California's Salton Sea, discussing how happy they were to
be in sunny California rather than being back in frigid Minnesota.
As they were talking, Ed noticed something funny about his friend's
ear. "Joe," he said, "do you know you've got a suppository in your
left ear?" Startled, Joe replied, "I have a suppository in my ear??"
"That's right," said Ed, "you have a suppository in your ear." Joe
immediately pulled it out, then said, "Thanks, buddy. I'm glad you saw
this thing. Now I know where I put my hearing aid."
