FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
Welcome to Issue 41 of the RV Traveler Newsletter, the
world's largest e-publication about the greatest recreational
lifestyle. Did you know it would take more than two NBA basketball
arenas to seat the readers of just one issue of this newsletter?
It's true!
Most of us drive modest-sized RVs the type that you camp with
in any campground big or small. While we don't "rough it" in
these units, we usually sacrifice at least a few creature comforts
of home. But a small percentage of RVers drive motor coaches the
size of Greyhound buses that offer virtually every luxury found
in a million dollar mansion. One of the newest offerings in this
super-size class of RVs is the 41-foot Travel Supreme ME diesel
pusher, which includes a rear end garage. To store a car, you simply
drive it onto the lip of a hydraulic ramp at which point the car is
automatically pulled into the womb-like storage area. See a
photo of the motorhome and a car being loaded.
SLIDEOUTS GALORE
Hot off the production line is the first five-slideout fifth wheel trailer,
a 36-footer from Carriage, Inc. Last year quad slideouts were the
rage. Want to bet that a six-slider is on the way?
VIDEO FOR NEW CLASS C MOTORHOME OWNERS
Mark Polk, the producer of the RV 101 series of home videos, just
released a Class C edition. Aimed at renters and novice owners of
Class C motorhomes, the video offers step-by-step instructions on
how to operate everything on the unit. Mark does a superb job of
explaining everything clearly, making this a terrific learning tool for
anyone new to Class C motorhomes. Read more about the
video.

KEY WEST, FLORIDA OFFICIALS STRUGGLE WITH RV "SQUATTERS"
Every year during tourist season, hoards of RVers head to
Key West, Florida, where they hole up in the parking lots of local
shopping centers. Many of these RVers dump their waste tanks
in places where they shouldn't, and this has local officials worried.
Read more about this problem, and possible solutions:

BREAKING NEWS
RV PARKS CATERING MORE AND MORE TO BOOMERS
Baby Boomers are now the largest group of RV owners, and they
have different needs and interests than the generation before them.
They like to keep moving, communicate by e-mail and prefer parks
with spas to those with shuffleboard. And they represent such a
potentially big market that RV parks in Mesa and Apache Junction,
Ariz., where most of the Phoenix-area RV parks are located, are
starting to add or enlarge computer rooms and fitness centers, offer
yoga sessions and make other changes. One group of developers even
decided to build a resort from the ground up in Apache Junction
to attract Boomers. Read more.

RV TECH TIP. By Mark Polk
What is the most critical, but least maintained component of
your RV? The tires! In almost all cases, tire failure can be
attributed to improper tire maintenance. The leading causes for
tire failure are overloading and under inflation. Tires are rated for
a maximum load capacity, but they can only support that capacity
if they are inflated to the proper air pressure. The COLD PSI
rating, on the sidewall of the tire, means if you inflate the tire
to the recommended PSI when the tire is COLD (before traveling)
it can support the maximum load capacity the tire is rated for.
Less air pressure equals lower load capacity. When you weigh your
LOADED RV you should weigh each individual tire, or set of tires.
If you weigh it by each axle, as opposed to each tire, it may not
exceed the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) but can exceed a
tire rating without you knowing it!
Mark Polk is the producer of the video series RV Education 101.
