FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
Welcome to Issue 48 of the RV Traveler Newsletter, published
this week from Needles, Calif., along the Colorado River and
historic Route 66.
When I arrived in Sacramento last week to stay a few days,
I telephoned some friends to line up visits. "Oh, why are you
staying at an RV park?" they all asked. "Come stay in our
guest room." Isn't it often the case that our friends and family
want us to sleep inside their homes, when most of us prefer to
stay in our RVs? For me, it's a matter of sleeping in my own bed
rather than a strange one and of not having to cart away my clothes,
toiletries and other essentials. When I travel in my motorhome, all
that's important to me is with me in my little rolling casita. And so,
one by one, I told my friends, "No thanks, but I'd prefer to stay in
my RV." And I did, and I was about as comfy as a guy could be.
This trip is a working one for me. My laptop computer is along as
well as a cell phone to stay in touch by voice as well as through the
Internet using the America's Choice Plan from Verizon Wireless. I
have also been surfing the Net via a wireless connection at Starbucks
cafes, where I simply log on using a password and am instantly
connected at broadband speed about twice as fast as at home with
my DSL. I'll have a report about this WiFi technology in a future issue.
One of my projects this trip is interviewing full time RVers about
their lives on the road for a home video/DVD I am producing. In the
finished video, RVers will tell the "who, what, where, when and why"
of their mobile lifestyles. Aspiring fulltimers, I believe, will find what
they say of great interest. If you are a full time RVer and will be in the
Parker/Quartzsite areas of Arizona in the next week and would like
to tell your story on the video, please email your cell phone number
to me at outwest@seanet.com and I'll call to see if we can meet.
Finally, on a radio station I was listening to the other day, the
announcer was giving a quiz. The question was "On average, what does
a man do 1.4 times a month?" Listeners were calling in their answers,
and it took them a long time to get the right one. Do you know? And, no,
it's not "get a haircut." For the answer, see below.
But enough. It's time for news and info. . .

A Golden Eagle Passport, $65 a year, provides free entrance for a

with this pass. A Golden Age Passport is $10, and offers the same
benefits, but for a lifetime, for citizens or permanent residents of the
USA who are 62 or older. It also provides a 50 percent discount on
most federal use fees for facilities and services including camping,
boat launching, parking, etc. Read about these passes.

BREAKING NEWS
KEYS CAMPER CROWD DOWN DUE TO COPS' EFFORTS
Less than a month ago, beachgoers and shoppers in Key West, Florida
could hardly navigate through the Bridle Path near Higgs Beach or the
parking lot at Searstown without crossing paths with an armada of RVs.
But Key West police say the Keys camper crowd has substantially
dispersed since the department stepped up efforts to issue citations
and warnings to those parked in prohibited areas. The number of citations
handed out to RVers has declined significantly since Oct. 12, and police say
nightly checks of areas most used by RVs have helped alleviate the situation.
