FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
A tip for RV anglers: Until a national fishing license is available,
it will continue to be an inconvenience for RVers who travel
from state-to-state to fish: a license is required for each
state, and it's often difficult to find a place to buy one. And it
can be expensive buying a license in each state, even though
permits for a few days are usually affordable. One solution is
to stay at private RV parks where no license is required.
Typically, the only requirement to fish these lakes is that
you're a registered guest.
I have fished from coast to coast and in many places in between
and never had to buy an out-of-state license. A good number of
RV parks have their own private lakes. No streams feed these
lakes and no public money goes to stock fish. So an RV park owner
can make his or her own fishing rules. Most have a "catch and
release" policy: have fun landing your whopper, but then throw
it back to be caught another day. Other parks will allow you to
keep a fish, but you'll pay either per fish or by weight.
The fish may be tiny perch, great for kids' fishing, or trout
or bass. I caught my largest bass ever at a KOA in Florida,
and, at age 3, my daughter caught her first fish, a five-inch
perch, at an RV park in Ohio.
You can find RV parks with no-license fishing by searching
on the Internet or by reading ads and descriptions in printed
RV campground directories. But be warned: Just because an
RV park advertises fishing or a fishing lake, it doesn't mean
you can fish without a license. If a stream feeds the lake or
pond or it's not entirely on the RV park's property, then a
license is probably required. So call first to get the scoop.
To change the subject. . . have you seen the cute-as-a-pin
little trailer that Dutchmen Manufacturing is now selling?
It looks like the Teardrop trailers of yesteryear. The only
problem with this little RV is it has a truly dumb name. See
a pic of the trailer and learn its name.
Finally, if your RV travels take you to Florida, please

WHERE ARE THE LOWEST TAXES?
For many RVers considering full-time RV travel, where to
establish a home base is important, and can be critical at tax
time, where one state may want a lot more money than another.
Here is an excellent discussion of states and even towns where
taxes are the lowest.
ONE OF THE FUNNIEST PHOTOS YOU'LL EVER SEE
Bob Hatch is an RVer, and he has a personal website about his
RV adventures. On one page, however, he features a photo
that answers the question: "How far should you go to protect
your family from terrorism?" And while this is a very serious
subject, we think you will howl with laughter when you see his
very novel solution.
DEALING WITH ANTS IN YOUR RV
They're tiny, but boy can they be a pain in the you know what.
Here's one RVer's way of getting rid of the unwelcome guests.

RUBBER MEMBRANE ROOFS MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO DAMAGE
Manufacturers like the rubber membrane roof for its light
weight and ease of installation on the factory floor. RVers
should be aware that while this technology has a sleek look,
the rubber membrane roof is more susceptible to damage from
brushing overhanging tree limbs than metal or fiberglass roof
materials. More.
DIESEL PRICES DOWN AGAIN
The national average, at-the-pump diesel price decreased
to $1.423 from $1.432 a gallon, the Energy Information
Administration reported June 23. The highest price in the
nation was in California, at $1.626 a gallon.

STOLEN MOTORHOME LOCATED WITH ONSTAR SYSTEM

motorhome stolen since major recreational vehicle manufacturers

this year. More.
STOP UNWANTED TELEPHONE SALES PITCHES
This is not a story about RVing, but it is likely of interest to
most readers. Anyone who is pestered by telemarketers can
now sign up for a national do-not-call list that should block
about 80 percent of telephone sales pitches. If the website below
is busy, try again: a lot of people are opting out from junk phone
calls and the server may be having trouble coping with the
traffic. Register for the free government service
