FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com
A few odds and ends this issue. First, for those of you whose
RV Traveler newsletter does not show up with the links ready
to click (colored blue), you might want to read the online
version of each issue where the clicking is easy. The address of
the current edition is always noted right near the top of this
email version. Scroll back a few paragraphs and you will find
this issue's link. Many AOL users are not able to click on the
websites I write about, and for them reading the issue online
is a simple solution for easy web browsing.
Second, I receive a few letters a week from readers who are
receiving a lot of junk email and who associate it with signing
up with this newsletter. "After I signed up to receive
RV Traveler I started getting unsolicited email," they write,
often in not-so-nice terms. Well, the truth is, the email
addresses of this newsletter's subscribers are never sold or
shared with any outside party. NEVER! They are ONLY used
for this newsletter. So if you are receiving a bunch of new
new junk email, rest assured RV Traveler is not to blame.
Please note that we will soon be changing the name of this
newsletter to RV Travel rather than RV Traveler. I have owned
the RVtravel.com domain name for a year now but have never
bothered to use it until now. I expect to make the title change
within the next month
And for those of you who live or RV in Florida, please sign
up for our new Florida RVer email newsletter. The first monthly
issue will debut next Thursday. Sign up here.

SPECIAL MILK LASTS A LONG TIME
Here's a tip about a product that comes in very handy when you
are on a long RV trip a special type of milk that can be stored
at room temperature for months while remaining perfectly fresh.
The milk is "Ultra High Temperature" (UHT) processed to stay
fresh without refrigeration until you are ready to use it, and
it contains no preservatives. Once opened it requires
refrigeration just like regular milk. One brand is from Gossner
Foods and is sold at Costco. A good way to utilize this product is
to carry a few quarts with you on your RV trips, pulling a
quart from storage when necessary, perhaps when your
refrigerated supply runs dry far from a general store. UHT
milk is also good for storing at home in the unlikely case of an
emergency when grocery store food isn't easily available.

LEARN WHERE THE WILDFIRES ARE
It's the time of year when our forests burn -- a terrible thing
and an inconvenience for RVers and other campers who often choose
these areas for their summer travels. To see where the current
wildfires are visit the National Interagency Fire Information
Center.
TAKING YOUR RV 'UNDERCOVER"
Your RV is a big investment. If it sits for weeks or months outside,
it will likely be exposed to elements including wind-driven dirt and
dust, snow, bird droppings, tree sap and acid rain. Especially harmful
are the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays that can cause paint and interior
surfaces to fade, while vinyl, rubber, leather and fabrics can dry,
crack and deteriorate. So what do you do? Protect your RV from
all these nasty things with an RV cover or portable garage. Here is
a good discussion of how to do it.

HOW TO BUY A DIESEL PUSHER MOTORCOACH

some time reading this helpful guide.

GOOD SOURCE FOR PARTS FOR VINTAGE AIRSTREAMS

MAIL FORWARDING SERVICES
RVers who spend a lot of time on the road need to get their mail
just like people who never go anywhere. The only problem is
there is no mail box outside the front door of the mobile crowd.
So how do they get their mail? Mail forwarding services, that's
how, and here's a directory of where to find them.

Winterizing Your RV
CAMPGROUND BECOMES STATE'S LARGEST "CITY"
For 50 weeks a year, the Buffalo Chip Campground is a hayfield.
But for about two weeks in the summer, it's one of the largest
cities in its state, complete with its own Sirloin Buffet, Subway
and Taco Bell. The campground also has a convenience store, a
video lottery casino, a rooftop bar, its own lake, a network of
roads, bridges, plumbing systems and electrical lines -- and this
year, its own water tower. So where is this campground? And
why does it swell to such mammoth proportions for two weeks
each year? Find the answer here.

CLOSED FAIRBANKS K-MART NOW HUGE "RV PARK"
Ever since the Fairbanks, Alaska, Kmart shut down, its parking
lot has become home to a field of RVs "camping" for free. Their
presence is actually a breach of city code, but the city of Fairbanks
can't do much about it -- it's the land's owners who are in
violation, not the RVers. Read more.

RANDOM RV THOUGHT
From reader Wayne Lapedus: "Every time my wife and I hit the
road on a camping trip we start singing 'On The Road Again.'
We start less than a block away from our house. Something about
RVing seems to lift our spirits and shelve our responsibilities for
a couple of weeks. It's a feeling we get from no other activity."
