FROM EDITOR CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com

Welcome to the eighth issue of the RV Traveler Newsletter,
brought to you by the websites and sponsors noted above.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. From the increasing
volume of email I'm receiving from our RV websites, many of you have
put the holidays far behind you and are once again plotting your next
RV adventure.

Although the beauty of RVing is that we can travel where we want
when we want, many RVers enjoy the company of others, whether
on their travels or simply as a way of sharing information. For these
people, joining an RV club is a good idea. Here are a few of the
best:

GOOD SAM CLUB: This is the biggest RV club in the world with good
reason. It offers so much for so very little. This group has chapters on
practically every street corner (we exaggerate) and is one-million strong.
Good Sam offers all sorts of member benefits including one of the most
popular emergency road service programs. Perhaps the best member
benefit is a ten percent discount at most RV parks. And its monthly
magazine Highways is one of the best, too, and alone worth the price of
the $19 annual membership. Join at http://www.newrver.com/gs.html

FAMILY MOTOR COACHING ASSOCIATION: A superb club for
motorhome owners only. Besides holding national and regional rallies,
FMCA publishes a wonderful magazine that surpasses Trailer Life in
useful and entertaining content. Lots of member benefits.
http://www.fmca.com

ESCAPEES: The very best club for full-timers. This popular group has
chapters across America, and quite a few member-owned campgrounds.
The club magazine is packed with information. Anyone who RVs full-time
or plans to should join this fine organization. http://www.escapees.com

SMART RV CLUB: For active and retired military. This organization has
56 chapters and 3,500 members. http://www.smartrvclub.org

RVing WOMEN: This is the biggest and best RV club for women RVers.
Its website is the cyber meeting place for members, but they get
together in real life, too, for support, companionship and fun. Any
RVing woman, whether single, widowed or who travels alone for
another reason, should join. http://www.RVingwomen.com

NATIONAL AFRICAN AMERICAN RVers ASSOCIATION: NAARVA is a
nationwide camping club dedicated to providing family support for African
American RVers. http://www.naarva.com

TEST YOUR RESPONSE TIME AT THE WHEEL
Let's say you're driving along a mountain road and all of a sudden a
deer jumps into the road ahead. How long does it take you to
react? Well, here's a very fun way to find out. See if you can
beat my best reaction time of .308 seconds.

MUSEUM OF THE WEEK
One of the joys of RVing is visiting local museums. Most in the West are
devoted to pioneer memorabilia -- plows, pictures and such. But I came
across one in Rawlins, Wyo., with a bizarre display -- that of Big Nose
George, the only executed crook in American history whose skin was
fashioned into a pair of shoes! One newly elected state governor wore
these "Big Nose" shoes to his inauguration ball! To see the shoes in
person, visit the Carbon County Museum. To see a photo and read more
about this piece of odd western history, visit

RV JOKE
A young, pregnant RVer named Sally was involved in a traffic accident,
but because she was riding in a sturdy motorhome she survived, although
she was left in a coma. When she awoke a few days later in the hospital
she was no longer pregnant! She asked her doctor, "What happened?"
He replied, "Sally, you had twins, a boy and a girl. Your brother named
them for you."

"Oh, no!" shrieked Sally. "Not my brother! His elevator doesn't go to the
top floor, if you know what I mean!" The doctor replied, "Well, Sally, your
brother named your daughter Denise."

"Whew, that's not so bad," she replied, looking very relieved. Then,
hesitantly, she asked, "What's the boy's name?"
"Denephew," he said.
