FROM EDITOR CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtraveler.com

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the ninth issue of the RV Traveler Newsletter,
brought to you by the websites and sponsors noted above.

I'm stuck at home and feeling the urge to be somewhere else. A
fellow called yesterday to order a book and as often happens, we
started chatting. He told me that he's 55, lives in New York, and is
about to retire. He just bought an RV and a Harley Davidson motorcycle
and he'll soon hit the road. "Where are you going?" I asked, and he said
he didn't know. "How long will you be gone?" I asked, and he said, "Maybe
a month, maybe forever."

How much RVing have you done?" I asked. "None," he said, "just starting."

He asked me about crime on the road -- that he had horror stories -- and I
advised him to use common sense and he would be fine. He asked me
about RV parks. "Are they filled up in the snowbird areas?" And I said no,
there is still plenty of space in all but the most popular spots. I suggested
that to get up to speed on RVing he read my book "The ABCs of RVing,"
(http://www.NewRVer.com/ABC.html), which he ordered.

When we got off the phone, I realized I wanted to be him -- headed out on
the road with no timetable or destination. I've done a lot of that myself, and
am far from finished. But for the next few months, alas, I am stuck at
home. The best thing I can do now to keep my wanderlust in check is
drive my motorhome to a nearby overlook of Puget Sound where I can
pretend for awhile that I'm away on an adventure. I swear that my blood
pressuredrops by 20 points when I do this.

There is no place on Earth where I am happier than in my motorhome.
When I travel in it, everything that is important to me is along. My favorite
clothes are in the closet and my favorite books on the bookshelf. My life
feels more manageable when I am on the road. I am organized there to a
degree that is not possible at home, where there is far too much "stuff."

In a few months I will be off again for a series of RV trips. For now, I
will simply dream of going -- a pleasurable pursuit all by itself.

MANY TRUCK STOPS NOW CATER TO RVers
America's truck stops, often called Travel Centers or Travel Plazas, are
increasingly accommodating to RVers. The book "RVers Friend" lists more
than 6,500 travel plazas in the USA and Canada with detailed information
about the services each provides to RVers. Many offer free overnight
stays in their parking lots, and a few even provide hookups. Many have
dump stations and/or sell propane. And some -- Flying J being to best
known -- even offer a fuel discount to RVers. All RVers who spend a lot
of time on the road should pack along this book. To learn more or to order
it for $11.95, see http://www.NewRVer.com/rversfriend.html

The days of driving your RV over Hoover Dam are probably over.
You can't cross it now because of terrorist concerns, but in

dam. You will still be able to drive to the dam to visit, however.
