FROM CHUCK WOODBURY
editor, http://www.RVtravel.com

Dear readers,

Welcome to the 90th edition of RV Travel, the world's
premiere email newsletter about RVing. We've changed
the name of this newsletter from RV Traveler to RV Travel
and you'll find us now at RVtravel.com. You may still see
the old RV Traveler logo on some of our web pages for awhile.

Now that the holidays are over, RVers thoughts are
shifting from holiday celebrations to spring and
summer travels. One indicator of this interest is
the long list of upcoming RV shows, which you will find
below. For most RVers, an RV show is not just a place
to buy a new rig, but where they can spend a few hours
climbing in and out of RVs, observing new and
improved features and amenities. An RV show always
inspires me to get out my calendar and pick a date for
my next departure.

I'd like to wish you a very happy new year. May it be a
safe, healthy and prosperous one for you and your family.

There's some great entertainment along the road and many
RVers don't bother to take advantage of it. We're talking about
factory tours of just about every kind of business you could
think of. This website includes hundreds off factory tours --
what's to tour, how, when, where and how much (usually
no admission charge and often you receive complimentary
samples of the yummy products produced). Read all about it.

TRAGIC ACCIDENT SENDS RV PLUNGING OFF BRIDGE, KILLING SIX
An accident Dec. 28 on I-15 near Point of the Mountain, Utah
killed six members of a family including young children and their
parents when their rented motorhome plunged off a bridge.
Investigators believe high cross winds literally blew the 30-foot
rig off the bridge. The message to other RVers from this
horrible accident is to pull over when you encounter high winds.
A trust fund has been set up for the family. Learn more.

IDAHO STATE PARK CAMPERS TO PAY MORE

PEGGI'S CORNER. . .by Peggy McDonald

SEARCHING FOR RV SERVICE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE A PROBLEM
When you are close to home in familiar territory and your RV
needs repair usually your dealer or an in-park mobile RV tech
service is close at hand. However for problems many miles away
from home the scenario can be much different. Don't despair, help
is never far away. Ask your park how to contact in-park service.
Their hourly rate can be as much as 50% less than a dealer
rate. When your unit is no longer under warranty, most problems
can be repaired by any knowledgeable RV tech. In-park service is
the economical way to go.

Seeking service at a nearby Camping World is another viable
solution. If a problem re-surfaces down the road, the next
Camping World will make it right. FYI, the appliances they
install include a lifetime installation warranty.

All RVers should purchase to an Emergency Road Service
policy. When you encounter breakdowns en route you simply
call an 800 number and help is on the way. Be sure your policy
includes a 'sign and drive' option and unlimited towing distances
without restrictions on the number of calls allowed.

Peggy McDonald is an RV lifestyle consultant, author of the
book "Spirit of the Open Road" and webhost of RV Living.

TRUCKERS ORDERED TO TAKE MORE REST
Expect to see more truckers in highway rest areas. A new
federal law is forcing truck drivers to drive less, rest more.
The law limits truckers to 11 hours behind the wheel before
taking a ten hour break. The old law allowed ten hours on the
road followed by only eight hours off. The new rule is intended
to prevent accidents. Each year, more than 400 people are
killed and 7,500 injured in truck crashes involving
tired semi drivers.

WORTH PONDERING
"Faith, hope, and charity. If we had more of the first two,
we'd need less of the last." — Anon.

RANDOM RV THOUGHT
From reader Dick Schafer: "When towing a trailer/5th wheeler
with two axles, make sure to check tire pressures. They should be
within one to two pounds of each other. I had an experience where
I purchased a 35-foot 5th wheeler and the dealer blew a tire towing
it from Indiana to Alabama. I wore out the new tire he had installed
within 400 miles. Come to find out the tire on the opposite corner
had 125 lbs pressure and the rest had 60 PSI, which threw weight
to the tire that caused its failure." Do you have a Random RV Thought?

ABOUT THE EDITOR
Chuck Woodbury has been roaming America by RV off and on
for nearly two decades. During that time he published a quirky
travel newspaper about his adventures and for six years was
a member of the stable of writers for the New York Times
Syndicate. Nowadays, he lives near Seattle where he drinks
massive amounts of coffee (required by law) and travels when
he can in his motorhome and sometimes by plane when vast
expanses of saltwater would doom his RV to Titantic-status.
