Question Just curious: how many people here "wanted" to become a full-timer because they loved the idea or love to camp...or were forced into full- timing because they lost their other home from some unfortunate event.

It was definitely a choice for us. In fact, DH's employer actually pays him to take the RV fulltime on the road. It pays our expenses, plus I get to come along as his traveling companion. It definitely saves the company money over high motel, per diem and fuel reimbursement costs. He can be on his job 7 days a week vs the superintendent who leaves early on a Friday to go home every weekend.

Darn Hitchup, is your husband's employer hiring? That sounds ideal. We are trying to find a reason to go full-time.

Actually, not sure. You do restaurant construction? I keep trying to talk my sister & brother-in-law into it, but they still have kids in school. I saw a job offer for something similiar on RV.net for the midwestern states. They needed traveling superintendents, but more as a subcontractor. Right now, we need to work 12 months a year, not ready to just work 1/2 or 3/4 time. They don't pay us THAT much money.

By the way, we got started doing this in March 05 in Tallahassee. RV tags say Leon Co, but we haven't been back to FL since May of 05.

Very interesting. I am a building contractor but I don't want to work full-time all my life. I do residental home improvements/renovations and some commercial improvements/renovation. I did a 5-6 month renovation job in Pensacola last year but I usually work closer to home (Tallahassee). I have a local business, Walker Construction. Do I know you? Do you know me?

My wife and lost our residence to Hurricane Ivan and bought a motorhome to live in, but we love it and always wanted to do it. I am a freelance designer/photographer and can work from anywhere with an internet connection. But now I'm confused what full-timing means. Does full-timing = living in an RV full-time, or full-time = full-time traveling? In my opinion, you need to be full-time traveling or else it is pretty much just living in a trailer. You are not experiencing anything different unless you travel and explore. Same thing with the people who leave their house up north and move to Florida and by a fifth wheel and live in it but NEVER move! That is not full-timing in my opinion. What do others think?

IMHO, a full-timer is someone who lives in their RV as their sole residence and travels. Traveling might not be daily or even weekly, but the option to travel is always there. For example, I'm based in northern California right now workamping at an RV park. However, I travel locally as well as regionally to RV conventions, weekend camping with RV groups or other gatherings. I need internet connectivity since I work every day taking care of the forums, so I usually don't boondock too far away from a signal.

I post topics that people will discuss, other than posts like "Where can I park for free?" or "What coach should I buy so that I can get the most out of my $200,000?" I will debate anything as long as you want. I am just trying to see what others think the meaning of full-timing is. And I think travel MUST be a requirement.

I agree. Started full-timing in June 06. Traveled June and July. Due to financial misplanning, have had to get temporary work. Waitressed at Flying J in Colorado, traveled, now housesitting in Green Bay, WI. Back on the road again in February or May, depending on housesitting job. Have a trip around the border of the United States in the planning and then the inside states after that, and when I can afford the big bill, a trip to Alaska and Hawaii. Right now I have been in all the states except New England and Alaska and Hawaii. I think I qualify as a full-timer.

We have full-timed for over a year now. Actually we call it work-timing since we both work. We chose this due to my job and the fact that she has skills to work at different jobs. Yes we miss our 113 year-old Victorian house, etc. For me I was immediately happy as I have wanted to do this for 32 years. She became comfortable after 6 months.

Our situation doesn't fit into the categories either. We sold our big house and all the furnishings in search of a simpler life. And we got it! Very Happy
