Cold Weather Travel |
|
|
This question has nothing to do with "camping" in cold weather, but rather, how to keep my cats warm during a relocation during cold weather. What if the temp is 20 degrees, and I want it 50-55 in my travel trailer for my cats? Can I set my thermostat at 55 and drive down the Interstate at 65 MPH? Will the furnace operate, or will wind defeat my purpose? Do you have another suggestion on how to keep my 5 cats warm and comfortable?

PS. They will be confined in 3 dog crates, complete with food, water, and litter boxes, all safely secured on top of the space normally used for a queen bed. |

First, your cats should not be left in the trailer alone!
Second, they should be in protective cases while traveling. Put a 12 volt heating pad in a carry case set on low for your pets. Hang a water bottle on the cage door and check on them at every stop. It will be traumatizing at best for these pets to be alone, so cover the cage so their view is limited.
Good luck and take care. |

I have a Class C and I have been in 10 degree weather with my cat. What does my cat do? He goes behind the curtain that separates the driving area from the living area, sits on the dashboard, in the middle of the night IN THE TEN DEGREE WEATHER!

Unless you have one of the hairless breeds of cats, I wouldn't worry about it. You could leave a blanket in the crates so they have something to curl up on, but they'll survive for a few hours of driving in colder weather. _________________ LindaH
