Anyone stay at Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds? If so, what did you think of it?
I haven't heard much about them, but a couple years ago, I know I saw a book on the subject... |

They're great and cheap if you've got the discount card. Normally no sewer hook-up, but they do have a dump station, and are usually on water. I've had no problems with them. |

| As sundevil6 already stated, they are nice, no bells, no whistles, no frills, and the price is only half if you have a Golden Age or Golden Access card. COE parks are some of our favorite campgrounds. They do vary from park to park, but the amenities basically stay the same. |

| Many of the COE fee campgrounds also have a free area nearby. One of our favorite free COE campgrounds is West Rolling Hills on Milford Lake north of Junction City, KS. |

COE in Virginia |
|

I've stayed in a few in Virginia when my camping experience was less
comfortable. The sites were large, flat and neat. Fireplace and pole for lantern. _________________ Salle & Samuel

Missouri has some terrific COE campgrounds. Always clean showers, paved roads, large level sites, picnic table, lantern pole, large areas for kids to play and nice playground, loads of fishing areas bank or boat. Very helpful folks. My daughter and I stay about every weekend in the Hermitage area. We have been to other campgrounds but it is our favorite. They know us by name and always let us have "our #14" if empty. Great bike trails on most COE areas. Price is $10.00-$14.00. Can't beat that. _________________ Can you hear the call? |

| We have stayed in Corps campgrounds in Texas and Alabama. They were wonderful and such a bargain. Can't wait to do it again. |

Our favorite is Hardridge CG on the AL side of Lake Walter F. George. Nice sites, great scenery, quiet and clean.
Check out reserveusa.com for COE CGs and reservations. _________________ Ruth and Jim

We have stayed at almost all the C.O.E. campgrounds south along the Mississippi, southern Illinois and Land between the Lakes, on our way to Florida. They are the best bet if you are on a fixed income. Most have paved pads with electricity. Water is within reach, but bring a "y" hook-up. They can fit the big rigs too. And it's easy to reserve a site. All the info is shown: length of driveway, distance to water, etc. And yes, there is a book on C.O.E. facilities. The book shows all info whether free, primitive, etc. _________________ 1995 fleetwood flair 1999 grand vitara and two chihuahuas .. |

Visited some in north Idaho. Great parks, very affordable and clean but understand that next year, they are changing their hosting procedure. Could affect the park's quality. |

Spent 3 weeks in Arkansas. Beautiful parks, asphalt pads, 30 amps, water,
nice benches, nice views. Over 62 8.50-9.00/per night. Spaced far enough apart to have some privacy as well. I think they are the best!

The Corps of Engineers campgrounds are the cleanest and least expensive campgrounds you will find around. I purchased a Corps of Engineers Campground guide book that list all of them for all 50 states, their directions, their rules and pricing. Great way to camp. _________________ Jimmy Caudle |

Excellent experience at WP Franklin Lock & Dam in Alva, FL. Small campground "island" surrounded by water. Every site is waterfront and you can fish and watch the boats go through the locks. (That is all there is to do within 15 miles of the campground.)
If you GPS, go to discoveryowners.com to the map overlays and they have a GPS file of all the "electrified" COEs and the max lengths. Makes choosing and finding a COE much easier! _________________ Sue |
