Body Panels |
|
|
Well, on my maiden voyage in my 29' Coachmen I had the fiberglass panel blow off. The leading edge (the panel in front of the driver's door)came out of the molding, the top broke and allowed the wind to catch it and pull it back. I was in nowhere TX at the time. I was able to secure it with duct tape (a tip from a friend to bring tape). It held all the way to Boston. Now I want to fix it for good. I have also noticed other panels bowing out. Any ideas on how to do this to make it last?

Shoe Goo |

A lot of people don't realize that a very good Epoxy glue exists that often works wonders: Shoe Goo. I use it on just about anything when a special bonding is needed, and it costs next to nothing in Wal-Mart shoe departments. _________________ Don Thomason |

You might take the piece to a body shop and ask their advice. It might be simpler than you think. _________________ Bo & Jan RVing for fun |

Panel Popper |

If my panel started a flappin' on my maiden voyage, I'd have that lemon back at the dealer for a redux quicker than you can say "Jackie Robinson." Trade that complicated thing in on a nice trustworthy Mopar440 roaring Travco motorhome. The entire body is made of 2 pieces of fiberglass... total. _________________ 1974 Travco model 270

I agree but I bought it second hand from a relative. I got a really good deal on it, as he was unable to use it any more. So these problems are expected. We bought it because we were going to rent one and try it, then the deal came up and we took it. What a good move: we fell in ove with RVing. If we really use it over the next 2 years, we will be asking for advice on buying a new one.
In the meantime, I think I will takeit to a body shop for advice. I would really like to do it myself. I enjoy that stuff. I will look at ShooGoo. Just wondering if it will adhere to the backing.
