1997 30' Rexhall Motorhome w/460 Ford V8 |
|
|
Hello again everyone. Just was wondering if anyone had or knows anything about the manufacturer Rexhall motorhomes? My neighbor has a 1997 with 12,000 original miles and a Ford 460 V8 engine. How are these engines compared to the Chevy and GMC 454s?
Any information and advice would be deeply be appreciated.
Thanks,

I don't know anything about the Rexhall motorhome, but the 460 Ford motors can't be beat. I have owned several and they are like the Energizer bunny: they just keep on going. _________________ Freedom is a Motor Home, open Highway, and time. |

| We had a 1997 Rexhall Rexair 29-foot with a GM 454. It was a great coach and we took it into about 22 states. Lived in it up to 3 months. It had no slides and we decided to trade up. It was a quality built coach. Motor ran and ran. We did the proper service. We had to replace the dash air condensor and put new tires on it. You will probably want to check the tire dates on it and make sure they are not the originals. Rexhall went through some hard times on their stock, but I think they are OK now. Good luck. |

Having been an auto mechanic, I would say both are great engines. I have also have trucks with both those engines and they both did equally well. _________________ Lee and Fran

Rexhall is in Lancaster, CA. Bill Rex has delisted his company, so keeping up on the company financial condition is no longer possible. But Rexhall is still making RVs. The new models are beautifully styled. He sells most factory direct nowadays, I believe.
I have an '01 Rexhall 32' with 65,000 miles and it still runs just fine. In all those miles, I've never had a major repair. I am very pleased with mine.

I believe the Ford chassis in that time frame may have had 16 (16.5?) inch tires compared to the 19.5 inch tires on the Chevy chassis.
I don't know how important that is but as I recall, that was a selling point for the Chevy chassis back then.
The Rexhalls that I have seen or heard about seemed to be as good as anything out there in their price range. _________________ Full timing in a 2004 Winnebago Sightseer 35N, Workhorse chassis.

| I own a 2003 RexAir and have had no problems with it. Rexhall seems to make a quality product for the price. The only problem I have is that I now have to stop RVing and am trying to sell my RexAir in a down market. Oh well, such is life. |

I have a 97 CruiseMaster on a Ford chassis with the 460. I bought it three years ago with 27,000 miles on it. It is now at 83,000. The only problems I have had relate to it not having had much use prior to my buying it. I have replaced the power steering pump and a few other items - everything is expensive, but "it takes bigs bucks to drive big trucks."
In addition to the tires, I would change _all_the fluids - oil, coolant, transmission, differential, and brake fluid, check the bearings, and start following the factory 3,000 mile service interval religiously. |

I have a 33-foot, 2004 1/2 Rexhall Rexair I bought new on a Workhorse chassis with the 8.1 Vortec GM engine, probably the finest gas engine available today with a 5-speed Allison transmission. This is the best combination out of all that I have owned.
I had a Ford 460 in a 35-foot Suncrest and the engine was OK, but the three-speed transmission just didn't have any performance or mileage. It was a flat 5 mpg all the time. The Banks helped the engine get it up hill.
I had a 454 in a 30-foot Georgie Boy and that too was a good engine but also crippled by a three-speed transmission. That engine lasted 75,000 miles.
I would never own a diesel for a lot of reasons, but you didn't ask about that.
Would I buy another Rexhall? Yes, probably next year.
