Want to Replace Linoleum in 73 Terry 18' |
|
|
I want to replace the linoleum in my "new" trailer. The surface is worn and it's ugly. Do I have to pull up the old flooring, or can I clean it really good and put the new on top like they do in a stick home?
I've really learned a lot looking back at old posts.
Thanks! Dawn in Portland |

As someone who restored a '72 Travco, I would strongly recommend removing the old flooring before installing a new covering. You'll be the only one who knows what's under your new floor, but that's also the nagging part of the secret. How will you feel walking around on your new floor knowing there is an old, ugly floor underneath?
It took two of us and some elbow grease but we removed all the old carpet and scraped off the ugly black rubber padding underneath. When the new hardwood floor was done, it was beautiful and I knew the musty, moldy, smelly stuff was gone. _________________ Best--

You can lay vinyl over the existing floor. Remember that any surface defect in the old floor will sooner or later show through the vinyl.
With 30+ years of age, I'd suggest remove the old flooring and inspect the surface for deterioration. _________________ George, Juanita and Mandie the Shar-Pei

| I plan to put laminate wood flooring in my motorhome. I will have to pull up the old carpeting, but I can go right over the vinyl. I've done this in two homes and it has worked out great. |
