I have an '06 fifth wheel with Dometic reefer that has been acting up lately.
Running strictly on electric hookups, the reefer stays cold for a day or two, then warms up on its own for a day, then cools down again.
I have adjusted the temperature slide up and down, tried the basic gasket stuff, etc. This has been acting up for about the last month. Warm for a day, then cold for a day or so, then warm...and so on.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked to see if your Dometic was on the recall list? Mine in my 06 Allegro was and when I checked it, I found it was not working at all. When I took it in to the dealer, he did the recall work and had to replace the cooling unit.

Good Luck,
Jon

Two things seem to help our refer:

1. Make sure it is defrosted.

2. Don't use it when outside temp is above 80.

Sorry, I must be missing something here. Are you suggesting that you don't use your fridge when it's over 80F?

We use our fridge all year round and wherever we go. It's been operating normally in temperatures over 105 degrees. If the fridge is not staying cold, it's not working properly and should be repaired. It may also need cooling fans installed to draw air over the coils in the rear if not vented properly.

That is totally unrealistic for most RVers...particularly those of us who are fulltimers! And it should NOT be necessary.

If your refrigerator doesn't work properly when the outside temperature is above 80 degrees, then there's something wrong with the refrigerator that should be fixed.

To the OP: I don't know what the problem with your refrigerator is, but it sounds like it's time to take it in for repair. And while you're at it, check this website, http://www2.dometicusa.com/recall.php to see if your refrigerator is among those that need to have the recall work done (if you haven't already had this taken care of).
