Charging System |

Can anyone tell me as to whether the charging system on my MH (2005 Bounder 35E) supplies power to the cranking battery when it is plugged into shore power and whether the solar charging system also provided charging to it as well? Any help will be appreciated.

On most RVs, it does not supply power to the chassis battery. You would need to install a trickle charger from your house batteries to your chassis battery. _________________ Lee and Fran

Lee/Fran, thanks for your reply. I have read just about everything that I could find and I couldn't find any information that covered that topic. My brother has a 2002 Pace Arrow and he said that he was plugged into shore power at home, and he told me that his chassis battery was cooking and it was boiled dry, so that led me to think that maybe the charging system was supplying power to the chassis battery while plugged into shore power. Thanks again,

I don't know about the solar system as as we haven't installed that yet, but our RV dealer told us that the generator and shore power kept "all" batteries charged, and the same with the alternator. One nice feature on our coach is we have a button that connects both batteries to start the truck or gen if we happen to run one down. Been there, done that...lol

| During storage I have a batteryminder connected to keep both charged. All I do is connect the clips and plug it in. |

Actually the charger is supposed to charge all batteries, including the starter battery, and then sense when the batteries are full to shut off charging. Sometimes the sensor does not always work properly, especially in older systems, and then the boiling occurs when there is too much charge and the batteries are full. You need to check more often whether the water level is OK.

Del,
You might want to take a look at and join the Bounder@yahoogroups.com
They have a great amount of expertise and experience, and can give you the straight answer. A very good site in my opinion.
