Please Help with Advice about Towing |
|
|
| Hi. I'm new at all this since May (RVing). I would like to know if any manual transmission car (Suzuki Reno) can be towed 4 down? What would I have to do to make it possible? Thanks. |

Motorhome Magazine publishes a Dinghy Towing Guide each year...the ones from 2002-2008 are currently on their website.
Check to see if the car you are interested is listed in the Guide, keeping in mind that the only cars they list are the ones that are specifically recommended for 4-down towing by the manufacturer.
However, just because a particular car isn't listed in the Guide doesn't necessarily mean it *can't* be towed 4-down. If you don't see your car in the Guides, then contact Remco Towing to see if there is a modification available that would allow your car to be towed 4-down. _________________ LindaH

We have hauled a Suzuki Vitara and a Grand Vitara for 7 years now with absolutely no problems on all 4s. Simply put the gears in neutral and key on Acces to unlock the steering and pull!
Your BEST BET in finding out about the capabilites of towing any vehicle (although I have generally found the above Tow Vehicle Report mentioned above to be accurate) is to go into the dealer and look in the owner's manual that comes with that EXACT model car you are interested in. There is usually a section on towing or towing with the vehicle (*see the index).
DO NOT take the word of any salesmen or the service department personnel! I have often been told by them that it is OK to tow the vehicle only to look in the manual and find a big black outlined WARNING that states "Never tow this vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground!"
Many will tell you you can tow it and then if you question further, you find they will usually qualify it by telling you "Oh, but you have to do this or that to it first'" (pull fuses, add an after market device to disconnect the drive shaft, etc.)
The best by far is to read it yourself, in black & white, written in the manufacturer's own manual!
