Sewage Smell |
|
|
Well, we took our first outing to an actual campground/RV park. Our site was a little small and not much room for the kids to run around at. Our dogs, well, this was the first time they have been tethered in about 7 years. They did OK: only barked a bit. My question is there was a constant sewage smell at the campground. Is this typical?
All in all, we had fun. We already talked about upgrading. Two adults, 2 kids (2 and 5), and 2 dogs (50 lbs and 90 lbs) in the ol' 24-footer was a little tight. We will see next season. _________________ 2002 GMC 2500HD Duramax/ 1997 Starcraft Leisure Star 24

Did you seek out the smell? It could have been a sewer site nearby that had wind blowing across it. Could have been a broken line. Did the site have regular sewer or toilet pits? I have traveled all over the US and through many campgrounds, and never ran into this problem. I have found going through small towns that still use sewer lakes, they tend to put off a good stink with a good wind. _________________ Lee and Fran

Did you have your sewer hose hooked up? If so, did you use an airtight fitting or did you just stick the bare end of the sewer hose in the hole? If you did the latter, then that's probably where the smell came from...or one of your neighbors wasn't using an airtight fitting on their sewer hose hookup. _________________ LindaH

| Sewer smells in good campgrounds is not typical. Whenever we have run into this, we have been able to run down the problem and get it fixed. It's usually because someone has left a sewer outlet uncovered. |

A sewer smell in an RV park is not normal. Was the odor only when outside, or only inside of the RV? If it was when outside, then there probably was some issue with the park.
If the odor was when inside of your RV, there are several possible causes. If the dump valve was open and there was not water in the traps from all of your drains, that could be the source of sewer gas. Yet another is the vacuum breaker that is located under each of your sinks. You can get information about what this cause is and how to deal with it by visiting http://www.adventure.1tree.net/rv-living/maintenance/sewer-odors-in-your-rv. _________________ Good travelin !................Kirk
