Auxiliary Fuel Tanks |
|
|
| We are thinking of an auxiliary fuel tank for our pickup. Any thoughts on brands, what style, and accessories to go with it? |

We had a 50 gallon cross-bed unit (aluminum diamond plate - looked like a tool box) that I really liked. It had a full high pressure pump assembly and gauge, so you just flipped a switch to select the tank you were running on. It was my favorite, but a little pricey.
We also had a 60 gallon "transfer" tank that pumped into the main tank on another rig. It was a lot more rudimentary and had the problem that if you weren't diligent, you could dump fuel - since it held more than the primary. It was a lot cheaper but I'm not even sure it was legal. _________________ Norm & Janet

Probably somewhere in NA - or maybe on another continent. |

Keep in mind that everything you add to the truck diminishes the load it is capable/rated to haul when it comes to towing your RV. If the truck is already at its max limit without the fuel tank, the extra weight will make that situation worse. _________________ Mike, Nancy and the Fuzzies

Auxillary Fuel Tanks |
|
|
I installed a 91-gallon auxillary tank in my Ford F-350 dually pickup. It was the best thing that I ever did. Now I fill up when the price is right and can pass by the higher priced stations. It has paid for itself in savings alone, much less the convenience of not having to stop as often. I installed it myself and it was a piece of cake.
I bought it from Northern Tool. The tank and the install kit were around $700.00. Best investment that I ever made. _________________ Retiree in Waiting

I had the chance to buy a used transfer flow tank. They are expensive but work, and I now have 750+ mile range while towing.
Before purchase of an in-bed tank, consider what else you use your PU for. Depending upon the tank selected, you will shorten the bed length from 1 to 2 and-a-half feet. Sometimes a larger replacement tank is a better choice. _________________ George, Juanita and Mandie the Shar-Pei
