It won't be long before the trek to Quartzsite, AZ begins. We are one couple who just loves the dust and sand. Can anyone tell me how we can get "full hook-up" reservations in Quartzsite? It seems it's, "Take your chances" or boondock. Our health conditions make dry camping impractical. All the parties we have contacted say they only rent space on a first-come basis. Driving the 500 miles to find out there is no room at the inn doesn't make much sense.

Any advice would be appreciated.

All the RV parks here in Quartzsite that I'm aware of take reservations. Who have you tried contacting?

If you do some research you can locate several parks in Quartzsite which do accept reservations.

Thanks for the heads up on more researching. My Google search lists a dozen parks; however, so far, they either don't accept reservations or don't in January or don't reply. My problem may be that I'm looking for space in January which is their busiest time of year. Many parks are probably sold out already. We'll keep up the good fight. Last year we ended up in Parker, AZ, which was a great stay.

This RV park is no longer Hassler's. I don't remember the name of it right of the top of my head, but there's a great big sign out front with the new name. Telephone number may or may not be the same.

Mike, how long are you looking to stay?

I suppose it's possible that for a stay of a week or less, it would be on a first-come, first-serve basis, but I can't see where than would be the case for a long-term stay (a month or more).

You say you stayed in Parker last year. Did you think about maybe staying between the two around Bouse? I made reservation in September for Bouse and I understand they still have room at the inn. We are going to be staying at the Desert Pueblo RV Park and there are a half a dozen more in that same area.

Thanks everybody. Talk about "ask and you shall receive." I'm thinking the seven-day stay has been the difficulty. We have friends who maintain a year-round spot in Brouse and we are familiar with the area. We'll get going on the phone list after all the folks get time to enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend.

Don't want to hijack this thread but I was wondering if travel is possible in the desert in winter. For the most part, do most RV parks fill up with snowbirds? Are there places to stay if you're sightseeing?

I'm not sure what you mean by the first sentence...are you talking about actually driving out into the desert? If so, then it would depend on where you were driving. You do have to watch out for sandy areas...I've seen several large motorhomes sunk axle-deep in the sands of Tyson Wash here in Quartzsite. I have no idea what they were thinking even attempting to drive down a wash in an RV!

As for RV parks filling up with snowbirds, that depends a great deal on where exactly you want to stay. If you're thinking about spending a month or more in any of the popular snowbird areas, reservations are probably a good idea. Of course, if you don't *need* hookups, then many areas, such as around Quartzsite, have lots of BLM land where you can park for free for up to 14 days.

Sorry I wasn't clear. If we go to Arizona or New Mexico in winter but we don't stay in one place, we travel all over to see everything. Are there RV sites that just cater to the overnighter, not the monthly camper?

Almost all RV parks save some spaces for the overnighter. You shouldn't have too much of a problem. If one park is full, there's another one down the road.

There are plenty of places to stay along the Arizona and New Mexico routes for you to be able to sightsee and stay short periods.

Thanks again everybody for your help. Michelle at Sunsetters RV Park interrupted her holiday weekend to phone me up and get us reservations. The RV community deserves much more credit than it receives for the courteous and helpful attitude of most members.
