Power On Board Jump Starter: Please Help |
|
|
| Power On Board Jump Start System for Car, Boat, Truck, Bike, Tractor with Air Compressor (Inflates Tires) and 12 Volt DC Power Supply (Recharge Electronics) and Built-In Light: can you use these inside your RV to say run a small TV and then when on shore electric, charge it back up? This would work well for my 20-inch TV with a 120 volt inverter and leave the jump starter plugged in to 120 volt when I have it to recharge. I know batteries give off explosive vapors when charging and using, but this says it is sealed. What do you think? It would be great for boondocking. Thanks. Mark |

| I have one and so far it has been fine. My main thing was to inflate tires and jump start the camper or generator if or when I run the batteries down. I don't think they emit any gas but if they do, it is a very small amount even when charging. Like I said, I never noticed anything. |

| I can't find my manual. Does yours say anything about using it all the time inside the motorhome? Thanks. Mark |

| I don't have the manual either anymore, but if I recall, I have seen a photo where that was being done tent camping. I think they have a gel cell battery and I don't think they gas. Maybe if they are greatly overcharged, but not on a mild discharge. Maybe someone who knows gel cells better can comment on that. The only other thing that it can be is a sealed lead acid flooded battery. I have seen these in video camera batteries and if you can turn them in any direction with no acid spilling out, how can a gas escape? Again if you really overcharge them, gas may form but with nowhere to go, the battery will either crack or blow up. So you must use the charger that is supplied and my guess is everything will be fine. I personally would use it as you stated, but I wouldn't leave it plugged in all the time because if something went bad in the charging circuit and it overcharged, there can be problems. |
