6 Volt Batteries |
|
|
| I need to replace my 6 volt house batteries (4 of them). There is no name on the current batteries. They are just a brown color. They are lead acid flooded. Will any 6 volt golf cart battery work? I have checked Sam's Club and they carry an Energizer 6 volt golf cart battery for about 75 dollars. What should I be looking for? |

We've never used any 6-volt golf cart batteries other than Trojans, but I've heard good reports from others of the batteries sold at Sam's Club and Costco. _________________ LindaH

Must have been AGMs. We paid $265 (less 10% discount) for our Lifeline AGMs when we had solar installed on our camper at AM Solar in Springfield, OR. _________________ LindaH

The answer is basically yes. As long as they are not too big for the compartment, any golf cart battery will work. Measure the compartment first, then the batteries before buying them.

| I replaced my Trojans with the Sam's Club golf cart batteries a couple of years ago. They are half the price of the Trojans and fit perfect. However, they are not the same rating, they are a weaker battery and weigh much less. I do not do much dry camping so they are fine for my use. |

| We had to replace our original batteries a couple of years ago and I wanted something with good amp hours/reserve capacity that wasn't too expensive. After some research I went with Interstate's U2400. At the time they ran $139.95 each. |

Yes, you can use any 6-volt battery, but check the ratings of the batteries before you buy. The cheaper batteries are usually not as heavy duty and don't have the storage capacity of the better batteries. Look at Interstate batteries as well as the Trojans. Capacities and warranties give you the best info. _________________ Jerry |

| I went with the Trojans. I found them at BatteriesPlus. They were twice the price of Sam's Energizer, but I decided to replace them with what came with the coach. The Trojans were definitely a lot heavier. After putting them in, the charging system is working just fine. It turns out that 2 of the batteries were weak and 2 of them were dead. Therefore the charging system could never get them fully charged and couldn't switch over to the chassis batteries. That caused them to lose charge. Moral of the story: periodically check the status of your batteries. You might find some dead ones. |
