While traveling in a western state we had a man open the door and enter our camper. My wife was inside the camper and had already visited the rest room and I was taking my turn. When I returned and opened the door there he was. Fortunately he did us no harm and I was still young enough to force him out. He was obviously mentally unstable. We tried to find a police officer but could not. Since that time I carry a handgun and a shotgun in the camper. Because of my father I am very proficient with either but I would never want to hurt anyone. It would be a terrible thing to have to protect yourself. Now the door gets locked every time.

As a retired police officer who has delt with numerous ruffians in parks of several types, I always carry a gun in my RV. You must be prepared to defend yourself and the mere possession of a weapon is often sufficent deterrent. There is an asumption by violators that there are really no enforcement in parks, which is often true.

Young people in National Parks have the idea that i owe them food, cell phone usage, toilet facilities, etc, i have one in a secret compartment that is easy to open and the other in a cabinet by the door, also easy to get at.when it turns nasty with the young punks,Just have to show it to them, "In a Meaningfull Way" Solves the problem.

Incompetent people with no real life experience should never carry guns. They prefer NOT to protect their own family. Sad really. You should go to Frontsight training facility and become skilled and competent. You will not be affraid anymore. Maybe save your family like a good parent should... or not.

How is it possible to legally carry handguns across state lines (or into/out of Canada)? Is it legal for long guns?

Both my wife and myself are military veterans and retired from Dept. of Corrections. Knowing the criminal mind, we would not consider traveling without our hand guns. We do however transport them unloaded and locked up. We recommend that anyone owning any type of gun be well trained in all aspects of safety, first aid, state law and bring along an abundance of common sense. Bear spray is good protection for those travelers without extensive handgun erperience. Safe Traveling!

I always carry a shotgun abord my RV and yes I am from Canada. Not all of us have forgotten what happen about 10 years ago in Wells Gray Park. I also obtain a permit each year to transport it down south when we travel.

What a sick world they live in, those who have so much fear they carry a gun. Do you suppose they would actually kill another human over what is most likely very petty?

Security is a state of mind as much as the amount of firepower you carry. If confronted with weapons is it the one who fires in fear first that survives ? This comment from a future Kiwi RV traveler.

Shocked! That was my response that the question needed to be asked. I go RVing to relax and get away from the daily grind, Carry a gun? In Canada, never. That kind of mentality is why the world is such a mess today. This has put me off travelling to the U.S. And if you bring a gun here to Canada you are NOT welcome. Come on, people. I have met friendly, marvelous, helpful people and made lifetime friends RVing. The idea that my fellow travellers have a gun stashed away sickens me. I have lived 60 years on this planet without a weapon. Cancer is my biggest fear, not a hoodlum.
