We always buy gas and patronize the restaurant. Going to the far end of the parking can sometmes get you away from the idlers,. but it means a longer walk to the restaurant

We prefer truck stops when enroute and driving long days. I sleep soundly so have never been kept awake in truck stop. They are usually open 24 hours with a good restaurant and travel store. Honestly, we have encountered our worst noise in RV parks (furnace in RV 10 feet from window going on and off all night).

We have stayed at truck stops and felt safe. We are usually so tired the idling of the trucks does not bother us.

We tried a truck stop once, but because of the noise of all those trucks idling around us we could not sleep. During the evening, we moved on down the road until we found a Wal-Mart for the remainder of the night. We have frequently use Wal-Mart for an evenings sleep when traveling. We always ask, never stay more than just overnight, never abuse their generosity and buy any supplies we can from them in appreciation.

On our way home to Long Island from Florida in the spring we stay at the Petro in Fordentown, NJ. Its 140 miles from our home. It allows us to leave in the morning and make home at mid day. The GW bridge can be a bear to cross with all the traffic. The overnite stop at Petro allows to us get get home in the daylight hours, as I don t tow our 5 er at night.

My wife, Homer, and I have found most to be safe and welcome our business/stay. Actually, prefer to a vacant parking lot for safety. Truck noise has never bothered us.

Like stopping in any parking area, we always shop there in one form or the other, filling up with fuel, or food. Something to pay back for our use of the space
