RVers who travel with their propane tank turned on to run the refrigerator are an accident waiting to happen. Hopefully, I will not be anywhere near them when it happens.

My fridge is 120/LPG only. I used to pack a big ice chest for moving down the road. I asked several friends and dealers across the country and they all said that they personally leave their LPG on, with no side effects. I do shut down the tanks when a tunnel advisory requires them to be off.

Our TT has a refrig that will run on 12 volts. It holds everything cold as long as you start with a cold refrig. That way we can travel w the LP off.

I keep the propane on. Yes I recognize the hazard potrntial. Tire blowout or T-bone accident might change my mind, but I feel the risk about the same as my truck fuel tank being compromised and creating a hazardous situation.

We took a fire safety class at Life on Wheels and Mac - the fire expert said NO NO NO NO. We turn our generator on for the refrigerator since it needs to be run at least 4 hours a month anyway. Those without generators might be surprised to know your refrigerator stays cold for a long time if you keep it closed and put a fan in it (cooler with a bowl of ice too)!

We have traveled with two friends who both lost part of their propane lines when a tire blew. Thankfully, neither one caused a fire, but now we always shut off the propane while driving down the road. We hardly ever travel for long periods of time, so have never had a problem with the fridge or freezer getting too warm.

The fridge runs on propane while we are traveling so we can not shut it off. It is shut off when the rv is not in use.

Only when required, thru tunnels, etc.

Only time we turn propane off at tank while travelling is if it is required while going thru a tunnel, etc. We have always used our propane to run refrigerator while travelling except years ago when we had a 3-way refrig.
