I belong to the Thousand Trails and have military campground access so I avoid any other campgrounds unless they have reasonable fees $20 or less a night. I refuse to pay $40+ a night (KOA) unless there are no other options and I must stay in the area for an event.

I agree, some of the anonymous comments are obviously posted by campground owners. Why hide behind "anonymous"? Comments like yours are a joke!

stupid or poorly worded question! What about us poor working slobs that only get to camp once a month or so, not weekly ? There is no place for us to answer.

Very poorly worded question: When we are traveling and destination is a few days away, we usually stay in Passport America parks, when we can find them. The campgrounds should have a rate specifically for people who are staying only a few hours and not using any of their facilites besides electricity. When my husband just needs to sleep a few hours we often stay at Flying J parking lots, as he is a retired trucker. These "anonymous" posts sound suspiciously like disgruntled campground owners.

We like to support the local campgrounds and much prefer the security, quiet surroundings, facilities, and talking with the other guests. You usually learn a lot more about an area and what it has to offer from staff members and seasonal RVers in these parks. We also are very aware of not utilizing space that truckers need for their rest time.

We rarely even stay in a campground public or private. We prefer boondocking away from the crowds on public lands. We only need a flat spot near a remote unpaved forest road.

Although it is a poorly worded question, I will answer "always". We generally stay in a commercial park or a state park. We have never "boondocked" at Wal-Mart or a truck stop. We have stayed as little as 5-6 hours but if we do not support commercial parks, they may not be there for us when we need them.

Contrary to the comments encouraged by the editor we prefer the commercial RV park due to our experience of excellent service and reasonable prices. Although we have nothing against the various government supported camping areas I find them overcrowede and usually full of noisy and ill mannered campers. If I was going to stay at Walmart I could just as easily just stay at a truck stop. We like private campgrounds and I hope they survive and prosper on the modest fees most of them charge.

You cannot do better than Oregon State Parks. The shower room facilities are unsurpassed and the grounds are nicely maintained. Give them a look if you happen by the Great Northwest.

We are full time Escapees Boondockers so we seldom stay at commercial parks. However, comercial park owners might get some of our business when we traveling if they had an inexpensive area where we could park to sleep for a few hours. But if we are camping why would we want to be squeezed into crowded sites when we can camp in a spacious site in the desert, forest or other nature best sites?
