When i am lucky enough to get out on the road it is between 55 and 65, I own a 39 ft 5th wheel, and it tows great but the cost of fuel is a issue, and something else that most seem to forget. Trailer tires for RVs are only speed rated to 60 MPH, so this is the posted max safe speed for the tires,And last but not least the speed limit should matter also. So folks just slow down you are camping or rving NOT racing.

i drive with my 30 ft 5th wheel at between 55 and 60,,,never speed while towing, or anyother time for that matter,,,

I would prefer 60mph most of the time. However the gearing of my truck seems to like 65 which gets the engine in its sweet spot in overdrive. 60 mph in overdrive only works on flat ground.

There are many websites listing state laws such as . . . http://www.towingworld.com/articles/towinglaws.htm . . . which indicate that states have laws for towed vehicles - if you tow a car or trailer the speed limit in many states is 55 with many others 65 and just a few allow speeds of 70 or more for towed vehicles.

In Ontario trucks are governed at 105 KN/PH or 65MPH by law. I set my cruise at 105 and no more hassles with the trucks and you pass only the odd one and none pass you.

I see 14% of "us" had better not be complaining about the price of fuel. (all those going over 65)

I drive between 55 and 60 and let the Truckers fight me and not me fight them.

I sit in the turtle lane at 62. We get the best gas mileage there. You seldom have to pass anyone. Traffic just flows around you. I set the cruise on flat roads and relax. I can take a look at the scenery a bit more also.

65mph is 11 mpg, where 55mph is 15mpg on flat highway with a 2000 Dodge Class B campervan 360 V-8. I drive just a hair above 55 unless I am pressed for time.
