Just because you own a car (or RV) doesn’t mean you can always keep it. Thieves want it, too, and every 46 seconds they steal a motor vehicle from somewhere in the USA. In 2014, 689,527 vehicles were reported stolen, with nearly 45 percent never recovered. The top two months for vehicle thefts are July and August.
So what do the thieves steal? Here are the top 10 stolen vehicles in 2014:
1. Honda Accord
2. Honda Civic
3. Toyota Camry
4. General Motors Silverado
5. Ford F150
6. Ford Econoline
7. Ford 250
8. Nissan Altima
9. Toyota Corolla
10. General Motors GMT-400
And here are the states where the most vehicles are stolen:
1. California
2. Texas
3. Florida
4. Washington
5. Georgia
6. Illinois
7. New York
8. Ohio
9. Arizona
10. Missouri
Half of all car thefts are due to owner error. Use common sense to minimize car (and RV) theft. Keep the vehicle locked and hide any valuable items. Never leave your keys in your vehicle. Park in safe, well-lit areas whenever possible.
I wish someone had stolen my Honda Civic when I had it! I have never owned a car that had as many breakdowns and mechanical repairs as that POS, whether the other car was new, used or Fiat. Never another Honda!!
