In all the discussions, I do not see any suggestions or considerations for temperature change when you run the tires at 80psi.  I have 235/80R 16 E.  In the north, during fall you can experience large temperature changes.  The mornings can start out at 40 degrees and rise to 70 degrees or more during the day, We always start traveling early in the morning.  How do I handle low tire pressure in the morning?  Should I always put air in the tires when they read low in the morning or can I compensate by adding more than 80psi in tires?

Thank youi

You should set your tire pressure before the tire warms up from driving or from being in direct sunlight. This would usually be in the morning on each travel day. You do not need to try and adjust tire pressure for expected changes in ambient temperature. If you set your tires to your goal of 80 psi in the morning when the temp is 40, it will increase then drop as the temperature goes up and down. We tire engineers know this will happen and have designed tires accordingly. The next morning if the temperature is again at 40 you will see the pressure has returned to 80 psi. You definitely want to avoid running your tires below the minimum needed to support your scale reading of load. Once you set the "cold" (i.e. not warmed up) pressure you do not need to mess with the pressure for the rest of that travel day. You can learn more by looking at the posts on "temperature" on my blog www.RVTireSafety.net   I have many posts on the topic of pressure and temperature and how to set the pressure for your RV.

So would the conversely be if I filled my tires to proper psi at 80 degrees, I shouldn't worry about what the pressure is when the temperature drops to 40 degrees?

NO If you inflate to 78PSI (if that is correct for yor RV) at 80°F the pressure will drop to only 71 or 72 psi when it is 40°F which would be underinflated if you need 78 to support the measured load.

In the fall we end up reinflating tires every few weeks to keep up with falling temperatures. Just a fact of life.

Yes, as I showed in my blog www.RVTireSafety.net pressure changes by about 2% for every change in temperature of 10F. Since I have added 10% to the minimum inflation that covers me for a 50F drop so I only need to add a couple psi every couple weeks if I were to be traveling in the North all winter.
