Some of you may have grown up riding horses, and others of you may have a terrible fear of horses (they are huge, after all).
Have you ever ridden a horse? If so, how many times? Way too many times to count (did you grow up with one?), or just a few times? If you’ve never ridden a horse before, would you ever want to or do you have no interest?

I rode horses until I got my first 50cc motorcycle and it went a whole lot faster.
Owned horses most of my life before fulltime RVing.
Cocoa Bean was a stallion who was a joy to ride as long as you rode bareback. He was a big rocking horse.
My horse had a name…Jhett…she was a terrific American Quarter-horse Assoc beauty.
We had her for almost 15 yrs.
I grew up on a farm with horses so I definitely have ridden horses. I love horse back ridding. I don’t own any horses because I know just how much work it is take care of them.
First time I was on a horse was when I was about 4 years old. It was a draft horse that I could walk around on while my dad was leading them around the yard.
Later, our neighbors had a pony that we rode quite often. When he was headed towards home we got some fast rides.
I owned two, I bought a mare with a 5 month colt, I rode her many times. When he was 2 years old I gentle broke him to ride and started training him for riding.
Grew up around horses and cattle, got a 65cc Honda when I was 13, didn’t ride horses after that. Honda could herd cattle just as good, at least for our feed lot and pastures. Dad didn’t believe in roping calves, said any 200 pound man on a 1200 pound horse with a forty foot rope could drag a 50 pound calf. 😎🐂
A few times before I was a teenager, 50+ years ago.
I had 2 Tennessee Walkers from the time they were 12 months old until their time was up. I loved them dearly and was grateful to be their alpha. Such a smooth ride, folks with Quarter horses don’t care to ride the trail with Walkers because they can’t keep up… makes their ride rough if they do. I out lived them and became a part-time RV traveler but I still miss them.
Ya, we had Tennessee Walkers too. Great horses.
Grew up on a farm but my father said he had a tractor so no to a horse. Second wife wanted to get back to riding but bought a horse that really needed to trust his rider and she wasn’t able to be the alpha. She bought another horse and I got the first horse. Took a lot of work but he became an excellent trail horse. Would go anywhere that I wanted him to go and was a Tennessee Walker so a smooth ride. He passed at 22. Then bought an ex racing thoroughbred, when I first rode him wouldn’t cross a 4 inch deep ditch. He eventually became a good trail horse. Fastest horse I ever rode, would make your eyes water. Back problems finally ended riding, still miss it.
I’ve ridden horses twice. Both times were pure disasters. Both involved my horse running away with me. When I was still in HS a girl I knew had two horses at her house. I went for an overnight and a ride on one of these horses was in the plan. About midway into the ride my “milder” horse took off like a shot with me holding on for dear life. My gal friend chased us down and in true Anny Oakley fashion, saved the day. Fast forward about 40 years. I let some friends talk me into a ‘leisurely’ trail ride at a Dude Ranch we were staying at for Valentine’s Day. I was at the end of the line of riders when suddenly MY horse took off! Passed everyone at a frightening pace with me yelling obscenities all the way back to the barn. I was the talk of the dining hall that night. I will never, NEVER get on another horse!
😂😂 Sorry, Tommy. I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight I pictured from your descriptions. Have a great day. 😀 –Diane
I started riding when I got lessons for my ninth birthday! I rode show horses for years. After I graduated high school I went to the thoroughbred race track where I was an exercise rider/trainer. I used to average getting on 8 to 10 horses every morning! I haven’t ridden in about 10 years now since I left the race track.
Only once and never again. Both Brother-in-Laws have horses and I want nothing to do with the horses. Wife was horse crazy when we were young and it was she who talked me into an hour long trail ride. She had to drive us home as I was too sore to operate the car.
That last sentence Cliff, made for a happy ending!
Some people love riding horses. Me, not so much.
Like a boat, a horse owner has 2 happy days. The day they get it and the day they sell it. My very good friend bought a horse for his 12 year old daughter. Between driving her out to the stables daily, the vet bills, the food bills, stable fees, he was going broke. She had it 5 years. Thankfully she didn’t get into Dressage (even more money).
It’s been 50 years since I was in a saddle. On the other hand, a cousin once owned a 70 horse riding stable. When our car broke down during a visit, he told me with a smile he had spare boots and we could earn our room and board until the car was fixed – middle of deer hunting season and mechanics were scarce. Actually enjoyed the work, but glad it wasn’t my career.
Haven’t for years but quite a bit when I was a kid.
I’ve ridden horses all my life. I’ve owned pleasure horses and towed horse trailers with them.
