Campground at Iowa’s Ledges State Park to be closed for 2018
A campground at one of Iowa’s most popular state parks is getting a makeover, leaving the camp closed for upgrades from April 1 to October 31, 2018. The campground at Ledges State Park near Madrid, Iowa will re-open with 82 electrical sites and 10 non-electrical sites. Day visitors are still welcome: the improvements only affect the camping areas.
Campsite evacuations ordered in Lake Elsinore brush fire
A fire has already burned 25 acres of Southern California land without any containment or control. Campsites near Amorose Street and Toft Streets have been evacuated. Both El Cariso and Los Pinos Campgrounds are affected. The brush fire began near Lake Elsinore and is causing continuous evacuations around the area.
Washington state county adds recreational fires to burn ban
Thurston County, Washington has announced that as of today, August 2nd, it has expanded its burn ban to include recreational fires. The ban has been put in place because of current weather conditions that fire officials say create substantial fire danger. The ban will last until September 4 and will apply to outdoor recreational fires — including cooking fires, campfires and bonfires — on land regulated by Thurston County, except in approved concrete, stone or metal pits like those commonly found in campgrounds.
Tennessee State Parks has launched anew reward app that allows users to earn parks merchandise, golf rounds, camping or cabin stays just for being active outdoors. Healthy Parks Healthy Person allows users to log their activities at Tennessee State Parks in exchange for points that can be redeemed for rewards. The app is free to use at any of Tennessee’s 56 State Parks.

They are interested, specifically, in what technology millennials want in the parks and how to make them more physically and culturally accessible. New RV camp sites coming to Daisy, GA fishing area

Evans County Public Fishing Area just outside of Daisy, Georgia has announced that its $1 million expansion will be completed in Summer 2018. It will include 20 to 25 new lakeside view campsites equipped with RV hookups, and restrooms with showers. The sites will be modeled after the gravel lots typically seen at state parks across Georgia. The sites will feature a grill or grated fire pit, water, power and sewer infrastructure. The RV sites will be slightly larger than some at other state parks giving campers more privacy.

Police are searching for a man who they claim stole multiple travel trailers from two different storage facilities in the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma area. Video from surveillance cameras indicates the same suspect may be responsible for similar thefts across Tulsa County weeks before. The investigation is ongoing.
