What we learned about you last week (August 24-30)

By Emily Woodbury

Hello, and happy (almost) Labor Day! I’d initially planned on giving you a brief (ahem…) history of the holiday in this space, but that would keep us both here for a while. If you’re interested in learning some fascinating history, click here to learn about why we celebrate Labor Day on the first Monday of every September.

The most interesting thing I learned this week (besides what I’m about to learn from you, of course) happened while I was getting my blood drawn. ….That’s probably not what you were expecting me to say, was it? While she was poking me with a needle, I looked to my left to find a small poster that read “Fun Facts About Blood!” Again, I don’t have time to summarize the whole thing, but read this about why barber poles are red, white and blue, and what the heck that has to do with drawing blood.

OK, now on to you! In last Saturday’s newsletter poll, we asked a pretty personal question (thank you for sharing your answers). We asked: How hard is it for you to make ends meet each month? Quite a few of you, 41 percent, said your finances are in great shape, so it’s not hard at all. The majority of you, 45 percent, answered that it’s not difficult for you as long as you watch your spending. A small 10 percent of you have a tough time making ends meet, and an even smaller 5 percent of you say it’s very hard to make ends meet and that paying your bills is a struggle.

Football is a habit you just won’t kick, huh? Monday’s poll taught us that football is your favorite spectator sport to watch (45 percent of you), while auto racing roared into second place (19 percent). Only 17 percent of you like watching baseball the most, 9 percent of you prefer hockey, 6 percent of you chose basketball, and only 4 percent of you prefer to watch soccer.

I wasn’t too surprised to learn that 83 percent of you don’t still have your childhood home in your family (I wish I did!). That being said though, 12 percent of you do have that home still in your family somewhere. A small 5 percent of you couldn’t answer because you lived in multiple places throughout your childhood. (Oh, that’s what Tuesday taught us, by the way.)

Hot dog? Hamburger? Pizza? None of those? Wednesday’s poll asked you to pick the one you’d most like to eat. Almost half of you chose a hamburger, 38 percent of you chose pizza and only 10 percent of you said you’d take a hot dog. A tiny 4 percent of you wouldn’t want to eat any of those.

OK, back to RVs… How long has it been since you replaced or refilled your RV’s fire extinguisher(s)? That’s what we asked on Thursday. Here, I’m going to attach the poll over to the right here so you can see (click the photo to make it bigger). I had it all typed out but it was too many numbers. We all would’ve been confused.

Alrighty, that’s all, folks! I hope you enjoy this long weekend. As always, stay safe, don’t drink and drive, and I’ll see you next week in September.
