That takes hard work by extraordinarily talented people.
You must be eager to contribute to a publication that still believes in old-fashioned, quality journalism. Most of the opportunities listed here can be performed from anywhere there’s an internet connection.
The monthly pay can range from enough to buy a dinner at Denny’s, to a good full-time living. If you are really talented and work hard, you will be rewarded. If you just want to work part-time to help fulfill your creative needs, then the income may not amount to much.
Tips to breaking in writing for us
By far the best way to open the door to writing for us is to submit an article or essay of 500-800 words that you believe will be of interest to our readers. If we like it, we’ll get back to you about publishing it, and to learn more about you. If you not an active RVer or experienced writer/editor who is experienced with the RV lifestyle, do not even approach us. If you are full of ideas about how you might contribute to our efforts, then tell us.
We are not interested in one-off feature articles (essays are fine) or how great a writer you are based on your various non-RVing experiences.
Opportunities
Freelance writers
Write for us on your own schedule from wherever you are. Must have professional writing experience. Write a column, feature articles, editorials — whatever you wish. We’ll coach you on which articles readers generally prefer and those where they show little interest. Pay can be next to nothing or exceptional, depending on if you “get” what we are doing, which is largely the same as what readers want. You should be an active RVer or someone who has spent a lot of time RVing in recent times.
Assistant editor
This person must have experience with daily journalism and be able to multitask. You will deal with freelance writers to improve their articles and their skills, help with editing chores, pitch hit on advertising matters (no selling), help with social media and assist the editor when necessary. In other words, you will wear many hats. This can be a salaried staff position for someone who lives in Snohomish or King County, Washington. Those who cannot meet on occasion in person with our core staff can work from anywhere on a freelance basis to start.
News editor
Do you love to write and know RVing inside out? Do you have a nose for news and a long list of news sources? If so, please email us and tell us why we need you. Must have a background in deadline writing, and provide writing samples. This is a paid freelance position but could evolve into full-time for a talented, motivated person. Work from anywhere. Pay depends mostly on your skills, and how much you choose to be involved. If you live in the Elkhart, Indiana, area (the world capital of RV manufacturing), that’s a plus.
Social media editor
This is a freelance position. You must know Facebook inside out and other platforms to help us grow our social media presence. A background in journalism is important, but not a deal breaker if not.
Circulation director
Help us build our circulation. If you have a strong background in working with mailing list programs, online or traditional print media, we’d love to talk with you. This involves design of email newsletters and their content, and implementing effective campaigns. The more creative you are, the better.
Advertising sales
If you enjoy selling advertising and have experience doing so in the RV industry, you can pretty much write your own ticket to income.
